Rather accidentally I have noticed the Registry Cleaner, run in aggressive mode, finds, lists and cleans/removes important MS Excel add-ins registry entries.
Those entries refer to following Excel add-ins:
- Analysis Toolpack
- Eurotool
- Pup 6 (Power Utility Pack 6) from John Walkenbach & Associates
- JWalk Enhanced DataForm 2 (from J. Walkenbach)
They all are listed as "Useless Entries" :
But, if you let them remove, all those add-ins dissapear from Excel's main menu or are disabled!!
I already had wondered why my MS Excel add-ins were gone from the menus, but I never made the link to Registry Cleaner :?
Now I know ... :
So, Jouni, please have a look to the picture below and do something to keep Registry Cleaner (aggressive mode) from listing those Excel entries (moreover as "useless entries").
But, there's more ...
The problem existed already in jv16PT2006 I have noticed now. That version (RC - aggressive) also lists those entries as "useless entries", but at least the entries are listed correctly, while jv16PT2007 beta2 lists them the wrong way.
Look at the image above and you'll understand: RC indicates as values: "2", instead of the right values you can see in RegEdit (look at the highlighted entries in RC and Regedit and compare ...). Why those values are indicated by PT2007 beta2 as "2" is a mystery :
Anyway, there's a big problem for us, Excel users, and I hope jv16 will soon fix it :
But also there's a big problem for all users: RC lists entries the wrong way with wrong values and why I really don't know :
Finally, I wonder if it makes sense to still use Registry Cleaner in Aggressive mode. If it labels some important Excel entries as "useless", then it is most acceptable it does the same thing with other important entries of other applications :
I know there exist backups, but sometimes one does not use daily the applications the entries are cleaned from and when using the program after a while one cannot make the link anymore to RC because it's too long ago...
I know there's a workaround by adding a string in the Ignore Words tab of RC, but that's just a workaround and I'm hoping Jouni finds another solution :
