Here are the results of bug fixing of the Beta2 done since the last report. Notice that the Reported by field means the user who was the first to report the problem. If there are errors in these reports, please let me know since these are used when it is decided which users qualify for the free personal license.

Issues found by beta testers

Issue: Registry Cleaner removes some required entries of MS Office, and shows the value of these entries wrong in the list of found errors.

Status: Fixed in Beta3 and later. The wrong value listing was simply due to debug code.

Issues found in in-house testing

Issue: The error fixing features of the Registry Cleaner were not working on certain types of data.

Status: Fixed in Beta3 and later, this fix highly increases the Registry Cleaner's error fixing ability.

Issue: Windows of the PT are flickering and losing focus, the Message Windows are sometimes left behind another program windows.

Status: Fixed in Beta3 and later.

Beta3 should be out on Friday.

It's not yet certain whether the Beta3 contains an improved version of the Disk Defragmenter or not, my collegue is working on that so it's not on my hands 8)

Beta2 Bug Fixing Report 3

Issues found by beta testers

Issue: File Cleaner's user interface isn't very clear on which features use the drive selection of the Options tab and which not.

Status: Fixed in Beta3 and later, the File Cleaner's GUI has been greatly improved.

Issue: Text in Quick Tutorial window says it asks you two questions before the application starts, in reality it asks three questions.

Issue: The Software Manager sometimes show the name of the software incorrectly. The name should only contain the name of the software and not any version data. For example, application ""FastStone Image Viewer 2.9 Beta 2" is shown as "FastStone Image Viewer 2" instead the correct form "FastStone Image Viewer".

Issue: Data Length number of the File Tool's File Analyzer shows a wrong value. It should show the size of the file in bytes but shows the sum of the file's bytes.

Issue: Disk Defraggers Drive Report shows the number of files stored in the disk wrong.

Issue: Opening and closing the Disk Defragmenter many times in a row makes the tool freak out.

Comments on jv16 Version 2007 Beta

1. The jv16PT debuglog.txt Notepad file provided on the desktop each time I run the program is bothersome. Can’t the file be stored elsewhere? The information provided in the debuglog file may not very be very clear to many average users. Are there options to preventing this file from being created each time jv16 is opened?

2. I much prefer the Registry Cleaner nomenclature used in jv16 1.4.1. The Red and Green color designations made it very clear which entries could be safely removed or cleaned. Labeling the entries medium, high and lowest could lead to confusion on the user removing the entries. I was unsure whether to clean the entries or not. I did use and like the backup process when cleaning the entries.

3. I really like the graphical user interface used on jv16 1.4.1. One main GUI is nice and simple for the user embrace. All of the many icons representing individual program functions seem more complicated.

4. The disk defragmenter performed the analysis rather quickly and provides the percent fragmentation rather quickly. However, users might like some advice from the software instructing them if the defragmenter should be run. Overall, the disk defragmenter is a little slow. I also don’t find the information or Note at the bottom of the window very helpful.

5. Some of the individual icons in jv16 2007 aren’t very intuitive and the user might wonder what the function of the program does. When some of the icons are clicked and open the program it isn’t always easy to predict the function of the software.

6. The Registry Monitor and Full snapshot worked fine. The snapshot was completed quickly, but I did not find the program very intuitive and it isn’t easily used. Once the snapshot is taken the user seems like they can compare the Registry snapshot with the existing Registry.

7. The History/MRU Cleaner worked quickly and without issue. The backup created flawlessly and without issue.

Overall, I found the new jv16 Power Tools 2007 to be a very powerful and useful program. I would like the GUI to be a little more intuitive, but realize that the program can be learned in a short time once it is used. Thanks for the opportunity for me to test the program and provide my comments.

Hi,

Trying powertools for the first time, so excuse my ignorance if my posting seems petty.

Have downloaded the beta 4 of JV2007 and have installed it (al least i think i have). when i launch the program after install, it tells me the licence file has expired. so my forst question is does one need a licence file for the beta version? Secondly, after cancelling the program due to the missing licence, the program bar pops up on the screen! what is quirky about it is that is does not seem to have a right end to it. i keep moving it to the left of the screen to get to the X button to close it but it seems to go on forever. i ended up right clicking on it and select close.

something tells me it's not meant to behave this way.

any help would be greatly apprciated.
