Question for jv ...

This: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=3844#3844 still happens now and then ... even with "Use as little CPU power as possible" checked. It does not happen very often ... 4 or 5 times so far in RC3 out of scores of scans.

Could this stall (about a minute) happen while RC reads dyn_ilst.dat and/or FileCache.dat into memory?

For instance, if the read of FileCache.dat in particular is conditional (perhaps triggered by the presence of a possibly fixable error), it would explain why sometimes the stall occcurs when no lines yet show on the list, and sometimes after a few lines show. ???

I can confirm that the registry cleaner still hangs. I have tried the scans shortly after bootup and after opening and running various programs without a difference to rule out memory or system issues. I have use as little CPU power as possible checked.

History Manager loop et cetera ... RC3

Test #1: -- called History Manager - tabs: Keep=0, Remove=0, Unknown=532 -- moved 37 to Keep and 495 to Remove via white and blacklists and context menu -- clicked Start -- after 2 to 4 minutes, message said 495 items removed -- checked backup Strings.dat -- header said there were 531 strings -- strings 1-3 were populated, strings 4-56 were blank, strings 57-531 were populated

Test #2: -- called History Manager - tabs: Keep=38, Remove=98, Unknown=48 (total=184) -- moved 1 to Keep and 47 to Remove via white and blacklists and context menu -- clicked Start -- PT lost focus -- CPU at 100% -- Xed HM, it ended PT-- checked backup Strings.dat -- header said there were 3996 strings -- strings 1-4 were populated, strings 5-3996 were blank

Called Firefox -- Firefox browser showed 278 items in History

Checked HistoryManager.dat: white & black lists were there; Data= was blank

Conclusions: first run backup is no good; second run loops creating backup; too many bugs to test further in RC3

Cookie Manager ... RC3 results : still some problems

Test #1: called Cookie Manager (white & black lists had been "imported" from RC2) -- tabs: Keep=9 (1 FF, 8 IE), Remove=0, Unknown=9 (8 FF, 1 IE) -- moved all 9 in Unknown to Remove with context menu -- clicked Start -- message said 8 items removed (should have been 9) -- checked backup -- backup reflected removal actions -- OK

Test #2: called Cookie Manager -- tabs: Keep=9 (1 FF, 8 IE), Remove=0, Unknown=1 (FF) -- moved the 1 in Unknown to Remove with context menu -- clicked Start -- message said 1 item removed -- checked backup -- backup reflected removal actions -- OK

Note: Test #2 picked up the item missed in Test #1.

Checked user's Cookies directory -- the 8 kept IE cookies were there.

Checked Firefox cookies with Firefox cookie tool -- the "kept" cookie was not there, a new cookie was there (due to RSS)

Called Cookie Manager -- Keep tab had the 8 IE cookies, Unknown tab had the new RSS cookie

Test # 3: used backup tool to restore Test #1 and #2 backups -- called Cookie Manager -- tabs: Keep=8 (IE), Remove=1 (FF), Unknown=5 (FF) -- restore did not recover all the cookies removed. Firefox showed only two new RSS cooies.

Note: Cookie Manager in PT is pointless for managing cookie unless browser and 3rd party product cookie management is turned off.

Conclusions:

Results were quite satisfactory when removing -- only problem was Test #1 missed a removal, but it was picked up in Test #2.

Restore from backup did not recover all the cookies removed.

Another problem noted (same as in RC2): if you use the context menu to move all the Unknown items to another tab, they move -- but if you click any other tab, then back on the Unknown tab, the cookies are back in Unknown and also where you moved them. You can keep doing this, generating free cookies like mad -- should open a bakery!

Too many bugs to test further in RC3

Did you have the Skip system dirs to improve safety option enabled? The program considers the Documents and settings folder to be a system dir.

It did however pick up the folder in program files and when i clicked move to recycle bin the folder remained even though it showed it was deleted. Ran the directory finder again and picked up the same folder and would never actually delete the folder.

Are you sure no files were open from the Symantec folder? If any file is open from a directory it cannot be removed because Windows protects all open files.

I tried the Move to recycle bin feature of the Dir Finder with a few dirs and there were no problems.

I was looking for a warning message from F&R.

But there was none in RC3:

I have now added an error message. I didn't wish to change the language file and therefore it will show "Error! Failed to modify "{1}"!" as the error message if the user attempts to access a binary file.

RC CF radio buttons overly sensitive

The sensitivity of the radio buttons in the Custom Fix window extends clear acoss the window. It should either be limited to the buttons themselves or not extend past the button descriptions. The current sensitivity makes it too easy to accidentally change a setting from the intended one when switching windows with a click on a supposedly neutral area. Added: ... or by missing the OK button by half a millimeter!

I did some changes and this problem should now be fixed.
