It was mentioned that RC is finding bogus entries. I am seeing entries that don't make sense. I had a text document I created called webshots, it was not linked to the webshots software yet RC is finding errors in the registry linking this document to the user options of the software. When I use regedit to view the file, it doesn't show any reference to the text document. Would this be considered one of the types of bogus files being found?

Another thing I noticed is that the radio button for normal or aggressive under quick select always defaults to no value being selected. Shouldn't normal be selected by default?

There's an issue with the (Dutch) translation as to the message above the progress bar when the cache is updating.

The message "Updating the file cache, this will take a while. Please wait..." above the progress bar remains in English.

I cannot find that message in the English language file :

It is simply not there, so it cannot be translated (in any language)!

Has anyone else had a problem with the registry cleaner appearing to stall at the beginning of a scan?

When I run RC it shows no values or keys analyzed and a thread count of 13. RC appears to be stalled then suddenly jumps to a thread count of about 8 with the values and keys being counted.

I am having a problem with the Registry Compactor. It seems it is hard coded only to go to the C:/ drive to look for the registry. The problem in my case is I do not have a C:/ drive. My boot-able drive where my registry is found is the E:/ drive. Below are the errors I receive when trying to run it and the empty final screen. I realize that not that many people probably use a different drive than C:/, but there are those of us that do. I have used probably 4 different registry compactors and none of these have a problem finding my registry.

I have two problems with the Registry Cleaner. First off, when you open it up, it does not remember the normal or aggressive setting. In fact it does not remember anything as it comes up with neither item selected. Secondly when the results screen pops up, I can not get rid of it by either clicking the close button or the X button. It just stays as the top most window and I have to move it around the screen to see and select what keys I want deleted. I can still do the Fix or Remove but the pop up does not go away until I close the Cleaner. See screenshots below.

I also have a suggestion. It would be a real good thing especially with the new tools for the registry, that there was a back up feature that you could use. Say for instance if you had that feature and maybe the registry compactor messed up in some way, you could have a back up to restore. Most registry type programs have a feature to back up your entire registry and I feel this is a much needed feature for jv16.

The problem with "Normal" and "Aggressive" radio buttons is already posted by several other users.

Please use the "search" possibility to find them.

There IS a Backup Tool in jv16PT ... always was.

Exists also for Registry Compactor: Full registry backups (files with extension ".bak_jv16pt") of the compacted root hives are stored in the same directories as the original root hive storage files (i.e. normally "C:\Windows\System32\Config").

The option to do a full backup and restore was already asked to jv16 and he promised to include it later.

Warning: The Registry Cleaner feature of the jv16 PowerTools 2006 betas (including Beta4) contains a serious bug which causes valid items to be listed as errors.

Please restore all the generated registry backups if you have used the Registry Cleaner. Don't use the Registry Cleaner feature before a fixed version is released later in this week.
