jv16 PowerTools 2006 Beta3

A new beta available at:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/pt2006/jv16pt_setup_beta3.exe

Do not install the Beta3 over Beta2 or any older version!

This release should work even if the Beta2 failed to start due to error of missing license.

Release notes

* All the new features are now implemented, but not all of them have yet been fully tested. Use extreme caution (especially with the Registry Cleaner)!

* This release does not contain any kind of documentation, nor the final set of graphics.

* You can now start to translate the product to your own language. However, there still might be some minor changes to the translation file.

* There are still some cosmetic bugs (screen flickering, slow refresh times, the about screen looks bad etc)

I can confirm Beta3 starts up just fine (I'm one of the users who could not start Beta2 at all).

Compactor works now!: Great job. Only one weird bug/error for some reason it is unable to compact hkey_local_machine\security it gives me an error telling me it failed to open.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the Registry Compactor should now work a bit better.

The compacter isn't working for me.

It says it compacted, but thats about it.

It doesn't realy does it.

Becouse after i restarted it can be compressed again, with exactly the same amount as before.

I Tested it with an other registry compressor, and that worked.

So there still is some prob with the one in PowerTools i think.

Intersting. I ran the compactor after it said it was complete i ran winaso and it told me that it was 100% defragmented. Which it wasnt before running jv16 compactor. I will test it some more and post my results

I'm finding the same problem with the compactor :

"Error! Failed to open registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security"

My registry is defragged from a week ago when I ran Rootkit detection utility (Sysinternals - Copyright (C) 2005 Bryce Cogswell and Mark Russinovich) and RegCompact.NET. Maybe the compactor needs a fragmented hive to work ?

Have backed up my Sys.State so tried the Reg.Cleaner and not suffered any dramatic instabilities.

Will carefully go through each utility and fingers crossed all works well ! 8)

The bugs in Directory Tool and File Tool (Split) I mentioned here are really not GUI ones :(

Please note that I haven't yet had the time to read most of the sent bug reports, I have only started to analyze them today. I will read all the bug reports in this week and all the reported bugs will be fixed in the next released version, which is most likely RC1.

Hello,

1. The speed of scanning registry is quite similar to the Beta2.

2. The number of errors found - 3 units more than the Beta2 has found.

3. I've removed all found errors. The system is working well - nothing wrong happens.

4. Still, from time to time the "Registry Cleaner - Scan report" pop-up window doesn't appear. In these cases when I close main window of Registry Cleaner then whole jV16 PT application closes.

5. The Registry Compact tool is working well now, except the message: Error! Failed to open registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY"

Let me repeat my polite request:

If I can have a wish and suggestion: it takes many of time and work to make all items as old and make a kind of initial snapshot of system this way.

We have to make sequence of clicks (select all - make item as old - select none) 9 times (one time for Software and Startup Managers and 7 times within Registry Manager).

Is it possible to add a button or menu item for making all items as old with one click ?

Received same error "Error! Failed to open registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY"!; Windows XP SP2 freezes completely, but only briefly (<30 seconds), then registry compact proceeds and seems to work otherwise.

Had Registry Cleaner freeze on occasion when scan was complete on Windows XP SP2; also cannot close the Registry Cleaner - Scan Report - clicking close button has no effect.

beta 3 is also omitting the one item that other startup managers find. It is nwiz.exe. It shows all my other startup programs but not that one.

I noticed a spelling error - In the software manager, when you select "Custom Uninstall," the first button displays "Run Unistaller." I believe it should read, "Run Uninstaller." Nevertheless, keep up the good work!

Ran Registry Manager

Clicked on "Section"

Found -> "Search Menu (Ctrl + F7)" and "The Search Menu (Ctrl + F8)"

They are the SAME !!!

In the English language file (English.lng) you'll find them under:

B_3E1 ......||Search Menu||

8 = The Search Menu

Can the author fix this in the next release, please?
