New major jv16 PowerTools Update - Build 1133 Released

I'm happy to announce a new jv16 PowerTools update. The version is 6.0.0.1133 and it can be downloaded from here:

This is a major update fixing the few reported bugs of the last version, especially the Access Violation and Privileged Instruction error message popups. These issues did not affect most users and did not cause any harm to system, but nevertheless, the issue causing these error message popups is now fixed.

The main points of this release is improved stability and performance of the product. Our dedicated testing team performed 456 test installations and 1837 test cycles in preparation of this new version. We were able to push the accuracy of the product even higher, with this version finding on average 25% more data relating to installed software.

This performance is also improved. The last build (b1120) took on average 59 seconds to complete the Initial Setup, this version only takes 41 seconds. Similarly, System Cleaner scan time is down from an average of 45 seconds to only 39 seconds. And that is with the new registry cleaner scan module included with this build! A better cleaning, but faster.

As a new feature, the Dashboard now shows more detailed hard drive information, including whether the drives are traditional hard disks or SATA SSD or NVMe SSD drives.

Lastly, this version also comes with an entirely rewritten Automatic Updates feature, which should now deliver you with small scale product updates such as bug fixes and translation file updates automatically. This can be disabled from the Settings, of course.

How To Update: Download the new version and install it over any 6.x version of jv16 PowerTools. No uninstallation of the old version required. If you have 5.x or older version of jv16 PowerTools, or you are unsure of your version, you should uninstall the old version before installing the new version. If you are running a licensed copy of the product, please note the name and email address from My Account before uninstallation, and enter the same name and email address to new version's My Account after installation to keep your licensed version status.

jv16 PowerTools Change Log Since b1120

1) Fix: The program can display Access Violation and Privileged Instruction error message when starting, or when the Widget starts. This mainly happens with systems that have a third party application called WindowBlinds installed. This is a cosmetic issue, that is, it does not cause any harm to the system. Nevertheless, it is an annoying and it is now fixed.

2) Fix: Uninstalling jv16 PowerTools can leave up to three Widget related files behind to the C:\Users\xx\AppData\Local\ directory. This is now fixed, and any previously left behind files will also be removed by this version's uninstaller.

3) Fix: The capitalization of some of the navigation menu items can be wrong when using the program in other than the English user interface.

4) Fix: The Widget's setting in jv16 PowerTools Settings window does not work properly. For example, you cannot re-enable Widget from the Settings if you have disabled it via its "Exit and never show again" feature.

5) Fix: The tooltips shown by the left navigation panel mixes English with translated texts. This only happens a Non English UI is used.

6) Fix: The dashboard can show gibberish (such as 0xB21A12) as the RAM manufacturer name.

7) Fix: The automatic updates do not work. This feature has now been entirely re-written and it is now working. If enabled, you should automatically receive all the hotfix and small updates to the program from now on. Major new updates still require a manual download and installation.

8) Fix: The program can display a cut message saying "if the download didn't start, go to https://". The message should include the correct address. This is now fixed.

9) Fix: Software Uninstaller can incorrectly remove a shared software installation directory. For example, if you have Firefox and Thunderbird installed from Mozilla, uninstalling one can cause the incorrect removal of the shared c:\users\x\AppData\Local\Mozilla\ directory.

Improvements:

1) Major accuracy improvement: Software Uninstaller finds on average 25% more data relating to installed software, and System Cleaner contains a new registry cleaning scan module.

2) Major performance improvements: Initial Setup now runs on average 20% faster and System Cleaner about 10% faster.

3) The dashboard now shows whether your hard drives are old style mechanical hard drives or SSD. For SSDs, it will also show whether the drive is SATA SSD or NVMe SSD.

4) The program now attempts to detect Windows shutdown and if one is detected, the program now handles that more gracefully. This applies to both the main jv16 PowerTools and the Widget.

5) You can now enable and disable an automated reboot within the scan progress screen for system cleaning and uninstallation of software.

6) Improved the overall smoothness of the dashboard and the scan progress UI.

7) The widget will now blend to the desktop background smoother after the mouse cursor leaves the Widget app area.

8) This version comes with many updated translations, such as: Dutch, Swedish and Russian. German translation will be updated soon, too.

Doesn't seem to finish installation. On the first boot up of the GUI, the jv16 progress bar on initial setup hangs indefinitely three-quarters of the way. I have to use the Task Manager to kill it. I've tried re-downloading, disabling my antivirus and firewall and uninstalling/reinstalling and rebooting, but the hang persists on the initial GUI setup. I removed v6.0.0.1133 and successfully reinstalled v6.0.0.1120. No problem with installing and running version 6.0.0.1120.

This seems familiar to me with some old versions of jv16 (v5) I tried installing in the past. The stall will occur with some version numbers but not others. Unfortunately, I don't have the data from the past to present. It seems to me that this is a reoccurring installer setup issue.

I am a Platinum registered user but under a different registration email from my forum email.

Received your message with the attached files. Thank you very much for sending me it. I checked the data and can confirm everything is working correctly. The mentioned registry errors are found by the new registry cleaner scanning module mentioned in the Change Log and are perfectly correct detections and safe to remove.

Thank you for your feedback! May I ask, how long did you wait for the Initial Setup to complete? On average it takes under a minute, but in some systems (depending more on what is installed in the system, not so much about the CPU speed etc) it can take up to five minutes.

Also, if you could send me the Debug Zip data from any jv16 PowerTools installation (you can find instructions how to generate the Debug Zip file from here: https://jv16powertools.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=6101) that would allow me to see a bit more details of your system and we could try to replicate your system configuration here in the test lab and see if the problem can be reproduced here. Installed it and the System Cleaner worked............but, it gave me 500 entries. How do I filter them so I only clean the Registry errors?

Just found out how to do it by using the menu from the little bars in the top right hand corner.

Almost exactly the same for me: setup hangs at about 75% mark, Task Manager shows 0.1MB/s disk for over 10 mins then I killed it.

Restarted JV16 and couldn't drag it across the screen, couldn't resize it either, not responding but Task Manager shows 1% CPU.

Killed it and rebooted PC.

JV16 widget popped up! Clicked Start JV16. All looked OK and menu was left-justified until I clicked Support then it jumped to centre justified and seemed to freeze.

Now returning to v6.0.0.1120

Just found out how to do it by using the menu from the little bars in the top right hand corner.

If you wish to only clean registry errors, you use the Settings to tell System Cleaner to only scan for registry errors.

The Initial Setup has an internal timeout of 15 minutes. So it should work if you'd just let it run for 15 minutes, after which you can use this version.

However, I installed it on two machines at home, one with an Intel Core I5, the other with an AMD FX8370. On the Intel, the update from version 6.0.0.1120 went very well. With the AMD, it's another story, the installation did not complete as usual (the post-install did not appear), the application closed. When I relaunched it, the interface appeared incomplete and was not responding correctly. The menu has only a white frame ... it doesn't work, but closes well and the widget appears. I uninstalled the previous version completely and restarted and reinstalled version 6.0.0.1133, the result is the same, it is not just an update problem.

I am attaching the debug.zip file and the screenshot of the welcome screen on the AMD machine.

To the point of this question, can the widget be made to allow us to shut down single apps rather than all of them? That would be a great help as it list some apps I want to leave open, but a couple that I would close straight away?

You can close individual apps by finding the X button next to the app's name and clicking it. Similarly as you can close individual buttons this same way from jv16 PowerTools's Dashboard.

In regards of the flashing issue you report, does that occur by itself, or does it seem to be relating to changing of size of the Widget window? (I mean, does the size of the Widget window also change when these flashing occur?)

One thing you can try to fix the flashing issue is from the Widget's settings (Right click the Widget's area and choose Settings) is to increase the update delay number.

Hello,

it seems that with this build, all uninstaller keys dealing with dates are incorrectly marked as invalid by the system cleaner.

I'm afraid I don't know the format of this date :-)
