Today I have a new version update for jv16 PowerTools to share with you.
You can download the new version from here: https://jv16powertools.com/downloads/jv16pt_setup.exe
The new version contains mainly small bug fixes, and improvements in performance and accuracy. On most systems, the performance improvements are minor, around 5%. However, in some systems, the performance improvements can be major. For this version, we focused on the test systems we have that used to run jv16 PowerTools the slowest. The slowest testing system we have used to take 71 seconds to complete the Software Uninstaller scan. That's SLOW. However, now, the new build only takes 42 seconds to run. From 71 seconds down to 42 seconds - That's a major improvement!
Right now, the average scan speed (across all our testing systems) for the main features of build 832 are:
* Average Initial Setup time - 53 seconds,
* Average System Cleaner scan - 51 seconds,
* Average Software Uninstaller scan - 26 seconds.
There are still room to improve, but these numbers are not looking too bad. Especially considering this new version does not only attempt to be faster, it's also more accurate, being able to find more left-over data.
In regards of numbers, our hard working testing team performed a grand total of 10007 testing cycles in our array of test systems since the last version release. They collected a total of 227 476 test installation log files, which were analyzed by our Automatic Quality Control system which searches for internal error codes, error messages etc. In total, our testing team clocked in 37 148 minutes of actual testing time. That's almost 620 hours of hands-on product testing time since the last version release.
And, as thanks to all the testing work by our team, and the testing data and feedback sent by you, our dear users, the AQC calculated an overall 30% improvement of overall product quality for this version. This is good, but we will aim to be better.
How to update:
If you are using any recent jv16 PowerTools (5.0.0.x) - simply install the new version over the old version. No uninstallation is required or recommended.
If you are using an older version, please uninstall it before installing the new version, or install the new version to another directory. As you might know, jv16 PowerTools also support automatic updates so you should get the update also automatically. However, there is a designed delay in this process (in order to avoid every single installed version of the program downloading the same file from our servers the same time), so if you wish to update to the new version right now, simply download the file from the link above and install it.
Change Log since Build 786 (the previous official version)
Fixes:
1) Maximizing or unmaximizing the main window by double clicking the top window bar does not work properly.
2) If you maximize the main window, then minimize it, clicking the jv16 PowerTools in Windows task bar does not restore its window and the program can remain invisible.
3) The Please restart jv16 PowerTools message box can be shown with the wrong message box icon.
4) Software Uninstaller and Software Updater can show wrong version number for some software, for example Speccy.
5) Uninstalling many software at the same time can cause the progress screen to display incorrect paths. For example, if you are uninstalling Winzip and Winrar, during the uninstallation of Winrar, the progress screen could say it is processing C:\Program Files\Winzip\. This is a purely cosmetic problem relating to the user interface. No incorrect data is removed, or data of other software.
6) Uninstalling certain software can cause the system to reboot incorrectly. This is caused by Software Uninstaller not detecting a certain type of reboot now or later selector in the app's uninstaller.
7) The scan progress screen of Find All and Finder tool can display incorrectly large number of results found. This is purely a cosmetic issue, the user interface simply counted the data wrong and that is why the number of items found shown on screen does not always match the final number of found items.
Improvements:
1) Major speed improvements to Software Uninstaller and Software Updater scans.
2) Minor improvements to the accuracy of Software Uninstaller.
3) Minor performance improvements to Find All and the Finder tool.
Known Issues
These are the currently known bugs and issues that we are aware of and are working to fix in the near future.
1) The support for 4K displays is not yet perfect, however, it is already quite usable.
2) System Cleaner's browser cleaning module does not support the new Chromium based Microsoft Edge.
3) The System Cleaner and Software Uninstaller Right-Click menus do not yet have the Add To Ignore List feature.
4) Duplicate Finder will list at most 2000 duplicate files.
