Here is a complete list of bug fixes and improvements that we did since jv16 PowerTools 2017 – Version 4.1.0.1728 was released on Friday, June 2nd, 2017:

Bug Fixes

Fix: The Clean And SpeedUp My Computer as well as the Registry Finder can fail to delete certain types of registry keys from the registry.

Fix: Starting the software can in some systems show error “You are currently running this program without full Administrator privileges. “

Fix: The Help > About window can show an incorrect number of licensed computers (the My Account and Find My License tools show the correct number of licensed computers).

Fix: The software can show a warning message of “Removing or modifying this key can be dangerous, are you sure you want to proceed?” for registry keys that are safe to remove.

Fix: With some two year licenses, the software could still say it will expire in one year. This was a simple user interface problem, the licenses are valid, only the expiry date was displayed incorrectly.

Fix: The PowerTools background processes can be ran using more instances that is indeed.

Feature Improvements

Improvement: The software will now automatically add itself to the Windows Control Panel / Programs and Features list for easy access and uninstallation. Before, this was an optional feature.

Improvement: Software Uninstaller will now find more installed software and left-over traces.

Improvement: Added an option to make PowerTools automatically clean all the automatically generated debug data from its Backups folder. To enable this feature, please edit the line “5=AutoCleanPTDebugFiles=False” to “4=AutoCleanPTDebugFiles=True” under “” section in the Settings\Misc.dat. If the “False” line does not exist, simply add the “True” line as a new line under the maintenance section. We cannot add an option to turn this on and off from the user interface, because that would require an update to every translated version of the software. This feature does not completely remove all automatically generated debug data but greatly limits the amount of the stored data.

"Repair" option does not allow you to delete certain keys. Despite message of end cleaning and restart computer, keys are always present

Reinstallation does not solve the problem!

I have the same problem.

When I start as a first action registry compactor the jv16PT hangs. I have to close the program. than I start a new run with an other function, it works.

Something is wrong in the new version!

Same for me too.

I've just installed the latest version (build 4.1.0.1738) over my previous version (build 4.1.0.1728) & when I open 'clean & speed up my computer' the screen opens but it says not responding, the dotted circle doesn't move. I've left it for 20 minutes but no change. I haven't tried any other section.

Thank you for the feedback! We are investigating the issue. It is not a generic problem (i.e. it does not occur with all systems), because we did not see this problem in any of our test systems. We are trying to find a way to reproduce the issue and release a fix.

Indeed. I cannot reproduce the reported problems at my system either.

I have the same problem and Doctor9fan on both Windows 10 PCs; have now gone back to 1728 version which works fine.

Update .....

Have now re-installed 1738 version on PC1 with the following results.

PC1 - worked OK with 1728 - reloaded 1738 (no reboot), worked once (Clean and Speed Up My Computer), rebooted PC (part of Clean Up process), started jv16 again and program hung (Not Responding, 30 minutes, no change) - see Event Report below. Cancelled and restarted jv16, same result. Turned computer off, rebooted 30 minutes later, ran 1738 build 3 times, used all main menu items with no problems. Fault gone away.

PC2 - had not reverted to 1728 version - after the program failed to start yesterday, ran jv16 3 times (Clean and Speed Up My Computer) - did not fail.

I have had to repair my computer by reinstalling windows from an image due to the slowness mentioned in my previous post & because I lost several icons from the notification area - Google Drive, iCloude drive & Realtek audio manager. Not good.

It does appear to be the case cyberval.

FYI I have 2 computers, one under WIN7 and the other under WIN10. They both freeze with this update if you try to open the registry cleaner.

Both computers run F-Secure anti-virus. Just wondering if that's related to this bug.

Are you referring to this version? If so, what exactly did you do with the software, what happened and do you have any backup logs of this?

With all due respect, this was not a generic error, it is only occurring in some systems, not in all systems. Before each release we test the software in numerous Windows environments and this issue did not occur in the testing. Furthermore, this issue did not affect the stability of user's computer in any ways.

That being said, I do apologize for the issue and we are taking steps to improve our testing procedures between product versions. We have today released an updated build which should fix the issue. A new forum post for the new version will be posted shortly.

Yes I'm referring to the latest version, I've already posted the backup logs created after the clean install.

I clean installed the latest version (rather than upgrading from the previous version) thinking it may fix whatever is causing the 'not responding' problem - it didn't but eventually I managed to open clean & speed up my computer & run it & upon restarting the laptop slowed down & became unresponsive, opening programs took minutes & froze the laptop. Restoring an image created before the clean install of JV16 fixed the problem.
