I am using version 1.4.1 again. I think the 2005 version is very slow. When changing to a deep scan and /or back to a normal scan, it locks up my computer. Sometimes nothing happens: 2005 does not respond and it suddenly stops.... When all this is happening, I believe that version 2005 can not deal with the registry in a safe way...

BTW I have a Windows HE PC, with 1024 RAM a 3.06 GH CPU ...and the 2005 is the only piece of software on my PC that is giving trouble ...

When reporting or discussing problems with our product, please mention the exact version number of the product (and no, "Latest" isn't a version number).

For example the jv16 PowerTools' version number can be seen from Help > About window.

I used version 1.5.0.272 and version 1.5.0273 with the same problems

Hanzie: There is a newer version then those in which are some bugs fixed.

The latest version is: v1.5.0.276.

Please check out the download page.

If the problem still excists, then report back to what the problem is and describe what you do and what your findings are.

From what I have read on this site the latest version 2.7.4 , 2.7.5 and 6 version were only *minor* updates (new languages, minor cosmetic changes). I think when I see 2.8 ...well may be I think about it to give it a new try.

My experiences with 2005 were similar to yours; however, the fixes that came later resolved the freezing and CPU drain. Stick with it is my advice...

@Hanzie: build 274/5 had some minor bugs fixed (Including a big one), but those minor bugs can couse sometimes huge troubles on some computers. Therefor try it out with a Clean Install. If it still doesn't work, then please keep checking the site for other updates now and then.

Also, have you tryed to close other programs that run in the background? Sometimes a virusscanner or firewall can couse problems. Or any other program that is running in the background.

I see in the support forum that version 276 has the same problem(s)

as I had in earlier versions .....

Version 1.4 runs without any problems on the same configuration.

I did a clean install ...

Conclusion bugs in 2005 or at least incompability.

There is definitely something wrong with ver 276!

Ever since I upgraded to it, it will ask that it needs to update the cache and if you click on YES, it just closes and disappears!

JohnP: Try one of the following.

1. "File > Program Settings > Maintenance", Click on "Flush Cache", then restart PT2k5, and click to update the cache.

2. Do a clean install. Make sure that the whole folder is empty/removed befour you install PT2k5 again.

This is indeed a problem with the product, but gladly this will only happen on very few system configurations (usually when people have multiple external drives etc).

I will try to fix this bug for the next update, in the mean time you can simply click No to the prompt. Or, if you want, you could go to jv16 PowerTools' Settings folder (usually at C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2005\Settings) and edit the FileCache.dat file. It contains a list of the detected drives in your system.

For example, mine looks like:

c=True

d=True

e=True

You could try to set one or more of those drives to false (e.g. "c=false") and then the file cache updater will not analyze those drives.

Could you tell me what do you mean by that it's slow? Could you run the scan and look up from the Scan Report how long does a full normal scan take? In a computer like yours it shouldn't take much more than a minute or so.

Also, do notice the "Use as little CPU power as possible" under the Options. I think this setting is enabled by default, disabling it will make the entrire procedure faster.

The setting is enabled by default because many users complained the new version's much more effective registry cleaner taking all of their computer processing time and thus making working with other programs while the Registry Cleaner was working quite difficult.

I've been a long-time user of RegCleaner and jv16, through v1.4.

I was happy to upgrade to v2005.

I made a complete backup, then ran the v1.4 registry cleaner and removed all listed entries.

I next did a deep scan with v2005. It found over 2000 additional "bad" entries. I deleted them, then rebooted. The reboot looked okay, but no programs would run - I got an hourglass, but then - nothing.

I restored my backup image and tried once more - same bad result.

I would love to continue using JV16 2005, but can't on my system. Running XP Home, SP2.

Ideas?

What version of PT2k5 did you use? build 276 is the latest atm.

Also, did you tryed to only use PT2k5?

You can try to debug the results by doeing the following.

At the options for cleaing the registry, uncheck every option except one. And then run the cleaner. If entryes need to be removed remove them, and then after that, reboot your computer. Then do that same step again, but then check the next option, etc.. etc..

After each reboot check if the programs still work. When not, please tell us which entry it whas you used to scan, and also (if you can/want) post/pm the registry-backup mabye someone can find a prob.

Thanks BlackDex for your suggestion, however that did not work. It has apparently been noted by the jv16 powers that be. In the meantime, until they come up with a real fix, I'll just have to click on NO not to update the cash (eh cache, that is)

I have the same problem as some other users who reported that the application closes after one answers 'Yes' to the file cache update. I tried a couple of things, including clean installs, removing the FileCache.dat file, and editing the FileCache.dat file with a list of drives. None of it worked. In all cases, I a new FileCache.dat is recreated with a 0 length.

On my system I have dual drives, with drive letters C, D, E, F, G, H, J, N, O on the first drive, and I, K, P, Q, R on the second drive.

My boot loader is on C, my operating system Windows XP Pro SP2 is on drive K (the second hard drive).

Could it be that such a not necesseraly typical configuration is the problem for the file cache updater? Just a thought

Replying to your suggestions.

The Active-X scan is what causes problems.

Using Build 275 - I did a scan with the Active-X option unchecked.

Found 69 items, they looked routine, I removed them, everything worked after a reboot.

Checked the Active-X, scan listed 887 entries (no, I'm not about to remove them!)
