Debugging jv16PT2011_V2.0.0.1043

1.If the error occurs before or during the startup of jv16PT_1043, do the following:

In "C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2011" create an empty file (or a file with one blank) named DebugMode.dat (not DebugMode.dat.txt).

Start jv16PT again. The debuglog.html file is automatically saved to your desktop with the name of "jv16PT_debuglog.html".

2.If the error occurs after the startup of jv16PT_1043, do the following:

First put jv16PT in DEBUG mode. To do so: press Ctrl+Shift after the start of jv16PT, enable DEBUG mode using the DEBUG pull down menu and restart jv16PT.

3.Recreate the error situation and finally attach the zipped (.zip) jv16PT_debuglog.html to this forum thread.

Note from jv16: One neat improvement made to the debug system: starting with jv16PT_1043, testers no longer need to send over the BugReport.txt file from the program's installation directory. The file is automatically appended to the jv16PT_debuglog.html file, which is generated to the desktop.

Looks like i have got the same problem. JV16PT v2.0.0.1043 doesn't start up. Can't get debug report as i don't see main program window to enable logging but only error window.

I have the same problem.

In my case, the problem occurs when I set Japanese as the language for non-Unicode programs in Windows 7 (English, x64).

Besides, similar problems have occurred in the combination of the previous versions of jv16 and Win 7.

Windows of "system optimizer" and "history cleaner" were empty when I set Japanese as the language for non-Unicode programs in Windows 7.

There is something seriously wrong with this update. I don't remember when was the last time I had a program crashing like this right after start in windows 7.

Somebody messed up big.

Needles to say, I have the same problem like my predecessors.

The debugging procedure described above by Leonardo does NOT work.

No jv16PT_debuglog.html file is generated on the desktop.

I used the Bug Tracker Site (http://www.macecraft.com/bugtracker/report_bug/) to report the bug with the error screen and bugreport.txt attached.

Same issue here, following is response from Macecraft:

"I am sorry to hear you have problems with our software. Unfortunately I cannot receive any attachments at this moment, so could you please write the error message here in the text field?

Did you have your antivirus software on when you downloaded the software? If it was, it might have caused some problems to download the software properly. It is recommended that you add jv16 PowerTools to the antivirus software's ignore list/ white list.

Also some browsers tend to cache the installation file and therefore you might not receive the latest version but the same old version you have previously downloaded. Please check you have downloaded the latest version.

The new version's version number is 2.0.0.1043. After downloading and installing the new version, please open the Help > About window to verify you are running the latest version.

Also updating to a new version might cause some settings to change, please check that you run the software as admin.

Have you saved your license for jv16 PowerTools 2011 and Platinum VIP in to the software folder? It is possible ( but rare) that the software does not recognise the license when it is saved on the desktop."

None of the above is issue.

Same problem here, Win7/64 on two independent computers. No chance tu run program. Fortunatelly found setup.exe backup 2.0.0.1009.

Unless the application error happens so early in the startup process that even this is not possible!

The problem is confirmed. Developer of the program works on the fix this issue (hopefully :) ). Debuglogs are welcomed.

How to create the Debug Log (if PowerTools not start):

Syntactically you are absolutely right, what I meant was: "the installation directory of jv16PT2011 build1043 in the Program Files directory on the C:\ disk".

jv16PT_debuglog_JP was created when the language for non-Unicode programs is Japanese and jv16 cannot start.

jv16PT_debuglog_EN was created when the language for non-Unicode programs is English and jv16 starts and works properly.
