Here is the Beta2 version of PowerTools Lite 2011:

Please read the following before downloading

Remember that this is beta level software. This means that this version has been made available only for testing purposes. This version contains bugs and can potentially damage your computer and mind.

As always, we will give out free licenses to the best beta testers. If a beta tester already owns a license we can also issue VIP and Platinum VIP packages for free, or other such prizes.

However, you are not entitled for any kind of free license by simply downloading these beta versions. Free licenses are given out only to beta testers who give us valuable feedback, such as bug reports or improvement ideas. We will publish the list of users who won a free license after the final version of the product has been released, not before. All free licenses are decided on case-by-case, sometimes it takes just one message with two lines to earn a license (e.g. if you found a really good bug that no one else reported), sometimes it takes much more.

How to send your feedback

* Please use the Post Reply button of this thread for all feedback.

* If you are reporting a bug, please give as much information as possible in regards what steps are required to reproduce the problem. Also let us know what version of Windows you are using. There is no need to post the hardware configuration of your computer, unless asked.

* You can send attachments, including screenshots, to the thread from the Post Reply > Upload attachment tab (below the main text area).

* If you are reporting a bug that is not obvious, please include the Debug Log to your report. Note: the Debug Log contains information about your computer, if you do not wish other users to see all this information, you can use the Private Messages feature to send the Debug Log to us.

* If you are reporting a False Positive by the Clean and fix my computer tool, there is no need to send a Debug Log. To report a False Positive, simply send a Screenshot of the False Positive, and say what settings of the Clean and Fix My Computer you are using.

* You can also send you general feedback, how you feel the program works for you or if there is something you don't understand, or if some feature doesn't work the way you expected. Feedback like this is sometimes even more valuable than bug reports.

How to create a Debug Log

* If the problem doesn't cause PowerTools to crash: Go to the Main Window, open Debug menu and select "Save Debug Log". The Debug Log is saved to your Desktop.

* If the problem causes PowerTools to crash: Go to the installation directory of the program (c:\program files\PowerTools Lite 2011 BetaX\ by default) and create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat" there. Then start the program and re-create the problem. The Debug Log is being automatically saved to your desktop as you use the program.

Release Notes:

* This is fully functional software.

* The icons used in the main window are not yet final.

* The Download Handbook features of the setup or the program do not work yet (because the handbook is not ready yet)

What's New (compared to PowerTools Lite Beta1)

Bug fix: Clean and Fix My Computer's description cannot be translated.

Bug fix: Main window icons do not show any tool tips.

Bug fix: The files ...\Cache\ProgramDirs.dat and ...\Cache\SearchDirs.dat can contain empty lines.

Bug fix: The program creates UserActionLog.txt, even as the User Action Log feature does not exist in the program's User Interface.

Bug fix: The File menu of the Backup tool contains two Close options, clicking the first Close actually executes the Print feature.

Bug fix: Opening a tool window many times in a row causes its window caption to contain duplicate data.

Bug fix: If you change a backup's description in the Backup Tool the change shows in the list immediately. However, if you close the tool and start it again in the same session, the change no longer shows. It will show in a new session.

Bug fix: The program creates a file called "jv16PT_InitialSetup_debuglog.html", the file should be called "PTLite_InitialSetup_debuglog.html"

Improvement: Improved the program's ability to find temp files.

Improvement: Main Window's Help menu no longer shows the Report Bug feature if you are running a beta level software. For beta level software, you should use the Report Bug feature under the Main window's Debug menu.

Improvement: The icons of the Main Window are now centered.

Improvement: It's now possible to resize the Main Window smaller than before.

Improvement: Program's executable now has the correct new icon.

What's New (compared to PowerTools Lite 1.9.0.589)

* Comes with the registry cleaner engine of jv16 PowerTools 2011, with improved accuracy and 64 bit Windows support.

PowerTools Lite version 2.0.0.1027 -> go to Main menu -> Click 'File' in the upper left window corner -> click 'Backups' in the pull down menu -> click 'Tools' option in the upper left window corner -> the pull down menu shows a 'Program maintenance' option. Clicking on it does NOT do anything!

Is the 'Program maintenance' option an (unusable) heritage of jv16PT2011?

Note: the 'Program maintenance' option was there already in Beta1, but I noticed it just now.

Confirmed fixes and improvements:

Backup Tool:

Initially, if a too narrow column, except for the first one, is double clicked to resize it, it expands correctly for an instant, then it jumps back to the too narrow width. I believe this also happens in jv16 PowerTools 2011 with the Backup Tool and other tool lists.

After you drag the column to the desired width, it doesn't happen any more, or perhaps just less often anyway.

I just uninstalled beta1, but I am pretty sure that this Backups defaults change was already in beta 1 (b1022) too!

Initial setup is always shown in the English language. Why?

I am pretty sure that with the used installer program (Setup Factory) it IS possible to start it in the local OS language.

The defaults are the same now (do the backup dialogs). I guess the changed defaults were a random glitch. Good luck finding the cause!

Tullik, you made me curious so I ran the following tests and perhaps I found a clue?:

1. Uninstalled/Removed everything from PTLite 2011-beta1 and -beta2

2. Installed in 2 separate new directories PTLite 2011-beta1 and -beta2

3. Immediately after installation of beta1 , I ran CFMC with standard scan policy, 25 errors found, I clicked 'Fix'.

The errors were fixed WITHOUT intervention of the backup dialog.

4. I restored the Backup and deleted the Backup file.

5. In the PTLite 2011 Main Menu I clicked 'File' -> selected 'settings' ->selected 'Backups'. See the imbedded screen shot for results.

Edited: I just replaced the mistakenly attached (beta2) snap shot by the correct beta1 snap shot!

6. Than I did the same test from above for beta2 and the results were the same as in beta1.

10.Next I ran CFMC and at 'Fix' the Backup dialog came up and from that moment on every time I used 'Fix'.

11.Than I did the same test from above for beta2 and the results were the same as in beta1.

When Jouni asked that question, I looked at Settings-->Backups for the first time. What I found appears below. Since I had changed nothing, I assumed the defaults had changed.

I seem to be having a problem here!

I posted some information and a screenshot to the beta1 thread yesterday and this morning I posted the same info to the beta2 thread.

Neither post has shown up??

If you post a message, with or without a snap shots, on a forum thread; after you click 'Submit' the post shows on the forum thread 'in seconds'.

If this does not happen, the 'Submit' did not work properly for reasons I can not tell from here. Did you get any error messages?

With jv16PowerTools 2011 full-version 2.0.0.1007 and .1009 there where a few reported issues like yours, using CFMC with the Normal system scan option!

Apparently CFMC (Clean & Fix my Computer) tried to remove an empty/temp file or files that were protected in such a way that CFMC got stuck in the fixing process.

The temporary bypass was to add the file related keywords (without quotes) to the CFMC 'Ignore words' option.

Previous examples were 'Avast', 'Alwil', 'Comodo' and 'Lenovo'. Please see: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4500#p28773

If applicable try if you can find out on which file(s) CFMC got stuck.

My first use of Beta 2 (Lite).

I marked all found errors for removal. The beta responded that all errors were removed, however 1 "Empty Folder" error remained in the window with the check boxes checked. The "note" below said that all errors had been fixed. A second click on "Fix" resulted in no change, but a note that 0 bytes were removed and 0 errors fixed. There was no explanation of the item remaining in the main window.

Follow on for first comment.

After finding the remaining "empty folder" error in the Beta 2 software, and sending my report, I ran the same function in jv16 Power Tools 2011. The same folder was identified and would not clean either in the non beta software.

This happens now and than. The empty folder that could not be removed was protected 'beyond the authorization scope' of PTLite 2011 or jv16PT2011 full version.

You can put the name of the file in the Clean & Fix my Computer(CFMC) 'Ignore words' option, to prevent this message(s) from reoccuring.

This is most likely due to the text size you specified in Windows. In XP-SP3 and W7 x86 I have specified a text size of 106%. Than the text will still fit!
