NO, right now you don't have to do anything.

The Bugreport.txt you attached to this forum contains the jv16PT v2.0.0.996(beta4c) application errors you mentioned.

The Bugreport can collect multiple application errors. The confusion part was that the first 2 application error in your Bugreport.txt are from jv16PT v2.0.0.990!!!

It would be a good idea to use Control Panel>Add and Remove Programs to uninstall the previous beta version before you install a new beta version. That will get rid of the old BugReport file and create a new one for the new beta.

- During the uninstall, have the uninstaller save your settings and put your license file on the desktop (the installer of the new beta will then automatically re-install your license file in the jv16 program folder and also restore your settings).

- You may also want the uninstaller to save the backup file...optional.

The above will also cause the new beta to rebuild the cache which is a good idea when starting a new beta version test.

Great to see another XP tester to help identify bugs in the beta versions on various Windows operating systems.

Bug fix: In Clean and Fix My Computer,  pop-up warning about the user removing a lot of registry data is often not appropriate. For example, it occurs when removing a lot of temp files.
Bug fix: Software Uninstaller can list duplicate software.
Bug fix: Clean and Fix My Computer reports: " All done! X registry errors were fixed," even if it fixed a broken shortcut type of error, i.e. not a registry error.
Bug fix: Software Uninstaller can miss many common installed software.
Bug fix: Starting Startup Manager many times in a row could cause the tool to start without displaying any results.
Bug fix: Registry Manager's Add/Remove list can contain duplicate lines.
Bug fix: Startup Manager can show lines with binary encoded data that looks like garbage.

Improvement: Added new grouping option to the File Cleaner.
Improvement: Greatly improved the product's ability to fix broken file reference in registry errors or broken shortcuts.
Improvement: Registry Manager's Add/Remove list now shows the registry key from which the item was found.
Improvement: Action History low loads its list faster.

I hope to fix the few remaining issues shortly.

Tag System: some ways to increase the odds of generating a unique line hash:

In Registry Manager-->Add/Remove menu:

Add a "Found from key" column and include it in the hashing input.

In Startup Manager:

Instead of placing "N/A" in the "Description" column, use the "Program" column string (OK),

or

include the "Filename" column string in the hashing input (BETTER),

or

add a "Loaded from key" column and include it in the hashing input (even better, but probably overkill).

I haven't seen any duplicate line hash issues in other tool lists (so far, anyway).
This issue is now fixed, thank you for reporting!

In your latest change log, I didn't notice a fix for the Startup Manager Tag System issue. I'm assuming it has a fix and the omission is just an oversight ...

Hello Folks,

I've just installed the .996 beta4c version after uninstalling the previous beta and the last 2010 version.

I ran the clean and fix feature. The results window opened and I noticed that I'm not getting a description of the error (it used to, right?), nor are the tooltips working.

Can anyone else confirm this?

I tried several tricks to re-initialize the video card (which I thought was the problem), including rebooting the machine, to no avail.

I've attached two debug logs, one called before and the other, after. I can't see if anything is amiss, maybe someone else can.

By the way, before installing this new beta, I ran the check for updates and it found none. I only found out about this beta by reading through the forum posts.

To see more of the text, you have to use your mouse to drag the window and the columns wider. Then you will see the error description in the Description column.

Indeed, there doesn't seem to be any mouse-over tooltips in that window.

That's why I don't run the windows full screen, because I can (could) just hover and the text used to expand.

Also, I'm pretty sure the results window showed a description of the error when something was highlighted (at the top).

Can you confirm this, tullik?

I made some runs on my x64 Windows 7 PC. Those hover tooltips are not in the C&FMC results list of PowerTools 2010 or PowerTools 2011.

I don't run full screen either. I just change the window size as appropriate for a particular tool's data. The program remembers the resizing done the next time the tool is used.

In the C&FMC results list of PowerTools 2010, the description column does appear in the top pane. So we have this bug:

The top pane of Clean and Fix My Computer no longer shows the Description column's content.

Confirmed for XP-SP3 with v2.0.0.996(beta4c), I did not notice it before!

You are correct, I forgot to include the fix to the Change Log.

Significant BUG in Clean and Fix. The FIX option does not honor the Global Ignore List disks.

For background, I have dual internal hard drives. The primary hard drive is the C: and D: partitions. The second drive is a fully bootable clone of C: and D: hard drive and is the G: and H partitions.

I've been wondering how entries reference the g:\ partition of the second drive randomly show up in the registry of the main OS which is Windows 7 x64 and x86 Professional. Well, I isolated it to jv16 Clean and Fix. I typically select the FIX option when jv16 registry cleaner finds errors....both when I start the registry cleaner from the main jv16 or from a desktop shortcut directly to Clean and Fix.

Here is a test that I ran.

1. I removed a specific folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Content folder. This folder was chs and was a key at

"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\LightScribe\\Content\\chs\\Getting Started.html" = "1"

Note that the folder still existed at G:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Content folder.

2. I then ran Clean and Fix which found the error shown in the picture below.

3. I selected FIX.

4. Instead of removing the key, Clean and Fix changed it to

"g:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\LightScribe\\Content\\chs\\Getting Started.html" = "1"

Additional Discovery: Running just the registry cleaner does not honor the Global Ignore List either when using Fix.

The Check for Updates feature isn't used with beta testing versions.

The problem exists in all tools that can fix data, that is, Registry Cleaner, Clean and Fix My Computer and Start Menu Tool. The issue is now fixed from all, thank you for reporting! This was a nice catch.
