Hello!

The new version wants to remove something called ieuser.exe. But in my knowledge this is nothing that should be removed its a important thing related to ie8.

Kind regards

Hans

What tool you are using and under what settings?

Hello!

Jv16 power tools newest version registry cleaner normal registry cleaning policy. I have seen this issue on only vista machines not xp. i have manually hidden this entries for the time been.

Kind regards

Hans

I have the same problem. Newest version, normal settings and Vista. PowerTools finds 4 x ieuser.exe, but it doesn't fix them.

I have just installed the latest software and I am getting the exact same problem

IE7 or IE8?

On my Vista PC, I'm still using IE7. PT2009 Registry Cleaner 1.9.0.590 doesn't call my ieuser.exe registry keys errors.

Ieuser.exe is part of IE7 only. If you have upgraded to IE8, Ieuser.exe is no longer found on the disk....except in the IE7 directory that permits you to revert back to IE7. The Ieuser.exe keys that PT 2009 is detecting are, in fact, valid detections because Ieuser.exe is no longer at the path specified in the registry. PT is not able to remove them because their permissions are blocking PT.

HOWEVER, I do not recommend that you go in and manually remove these keys via changing their permissions. I did on my Vista SP2 x64 system and IE8 started randomly crashing. Fortunately I had exported these keys prior to removing them so I was able to quickly restore them...which stopped IE8 from randomly crashing.

I recommend that you add them to the PT 2009 Ignore list. JMO :

Thank you. I will follow your recommandation :)

So ...

  • I installed IE8.

It looks like the IE8 install removed C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exe.

Then the Registry Cleaner found a CLSID key ({300165D9-44B1-4C7A-AD58-4A9E7200E2E8}) "error" in HKCR and HKLM because the file no longer existed.

The items could not be removed by Registry Cleaner because TrustedInstaller "owned" the keys (and subkeys).

I used RegEdit to add my userid to the HKCR key (and one subkey), and give ownership to my userid instead of TrustedInstaller.

Then the items could be removed by Registry Cleaner.

Based on all that, I believe the errors (as described) can be safely removed if you have IE8 on your X86 system.

Added:

  • I see siliconman01 had some caveats on this for a Vista SP2 x64 system.

My desktop system is Vista (not SP1) x86. There have been no problems with IE8 after removing the keys I described earlier.

In any case, the way I did the removal, there is a PowerTools backup.

However, Microsoft's IE8 installer (IE8-WindowsVista-x86-ENU.exe) result did not provide an obvious way to remove IE8 and return to IE7. Perhaps a Restore Point would do it (?)

I suppose they have an IE7 installer somewhere on their site, but I don't think I'll need to go back to IE7...

There should be an Internet Explorer IE8 uninstall in Programs and Features. Also there should be a blue IE7 directory under C:\Windows. At least there is on Vista SP2 x64. That is if you downloaded IE8 installer. If you got it from Windows Update, it is probably "uninstallable" via removing the Windows Update update like any other hotfix uninstallation.

Sorry, we encountered an error while displaying this content. If you're a user, please try again later. If you're an administrator, take a look in your Flarum log files for more information.

Hello!

ieuser.exe is a Internet Explorer\r from Microsoft Corporation\r belonging to Microsoft® Windows® Operating System\r . ieuser.exe is launched before starting Internet Explorer and sets the security settings of the medium level. When administrative privileges are required in Internet Explorer (e.g. install an ActiveX), IEInstall.exe is used. ieuser.exe should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly.

Kind regards

That is more or less the case for IE7, but not for IE8. When IE8 installs, it actually removes the ieuser.exe program from Program Files.

IE8 seems to run OK on 32 bit Vista and Windows 7 when the CLSID key and entries below are not in the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

@="\"%ProgramFiles%\\Internet Explorer\\IEUser.exe\""

"ServerExecutable"="%ProgramFiles%\\Internet Explorer\\IEUser.exe"
