Also, in Settings-Maintenance, when I click on any button, such as Delete temp files, the program freezes, the window starts flickering, and CPU usage spikes to 100%. I have to shut the program down using Task Manager.

This I cannot confirm...on any of the selections. They all work quickly on XP-SP3.

These symptoms are strange. Same thing happened the 6 or 7 times I tried yesterday evening. Sounds like a 'local' issue with my machine. Worked perfectly in the previous release, though. Thanks.

for whatever its worth,imho, i dont care for those one button fixers, thats one of the main reasons i like power tools, i can pick an choose what i want to do. i like to know what is going on with my computer. instead of clicking just one button an then i get a message that says, yep everything is fixed now, an i dont have a clue on what is fixed. only improvement i could think of for powertools is to fix the license upgrade problem,which for me now has become a yearly problem.

These are not one-button fixers of the type you refer to. These buttons 'clean up' certain aspects of the program itself - temporary files, unneeded translations - maintenance stuff.

I agree with you. I would much rather have full control over the individual things I want to do. That is why I love PT.

Yes, I can confirm that this does not work in Version 550; running Vista Home Premium SP1

No problems here with Settings > Maintenance, e.g. Delete Temp Files (Vista Ultimate SP1).

I have no problems with this feature either in Version 550; running Vista Home Premium SP1.

Not confirmed here: no problems in Settings > Maintenance nor with the "Test"-button in Settings > Messaging

Just a little update: We are working to implement a split Simple / Advanced user interface system to PowerTools. The Simple Mode contains less features and options than the Advanced Mode. The Advanced Mode contains everything that PowerTools now contains. This update will be added to PowerTools in the PT 2009 Release 2 update, a large update that will be released around the same time as Project Sunshine (within 3 months).

One thing that slows the development on my part is the infection I got to my left arm that makes it impossible for me to use it for now, even for typing. At the moment I can only work with my other arm and that slows me down quite a bit.

A fully 64 bit Windows compatible version of PowerTools will not be released in this month, it will be delayed by at least a week and it will be released in May 2009. In the mean time, users of 64 bit Windows are recommended to use the private test build 555 which is 95% compatible with 64 bit OS'es.

Probably not, there will be quite a few changes so I would like to do a really proper beta testing before, and that will take at least week or two.

I will be out of the office for a while starting from the end of May, so I do not wish to rush out any release before that.

So currently, the plan is to release PowerTools Lite's final version before the end of May, and the next version jv16 PowerTools with full 64 bit compatibility. The next major release of jv16 PowerTools will be out in Q3 with some really nice GUI and usability improvements, and also the "Easy Fix Tool" (yeah, we are still working on the name) that basically does everything that PowerTools Lite does and a bit more. This is to ensure that no user of jv16 PowerTools needs to use PowerTools Lite as well.

If the major update for jv16 PowerTools is delayed to Q4, we will release it as jv16 PowerTools 2010 and that would be then be a free update to all registered users of PT 2009, and the next big new feature will be added to PT 2011.

But anyways, we'll see how it goes.

Some people have expressed concern and questions about why we are at the moment focusing to PowerTools Lite, the freeware program, rather than jv16 PowerTools.

The reason is that these programs use the same code base, so PowerTools Lite is a very good testing environment to fix issues and improve things on jv16 PowerTools as well. So all the time we use with PT Lite, benefits users of jv16 PowerTools too.

Updated versions of both programs will be released shortly (in this week I hope).
