I repeat: I wonder if you have read this post. If so, what do you think about the FOUR indicated, already existing "things that highlight the user that there are errors found"?

Nobody has given an answer to my question so far...

Yes, you have made your point. I've read the post. And, apparently you are referring to the summary screen - the one that has an "option" to "Do not show this again."

Going back many versions, 2009 seems to run much slower and I'm beginning to think a lot of this is GUI and assembling "speed results" and "severity results" and presenting summaries.

If I am doing a Registry scan, I want to get to the results as quickly as possible. Is "nice" to present a summary and indicate the speed of the scan, etc. but I want to see the errors and fix them - that's why I ran the scan in the first place; its why we have the tool to run.

So, what is the first thing we are going to do - expand the results so we can determine which ones to fix, never show again, etc.

All we have been asking from the first post on this thread is to have a way to quickly "expand all." Yes, most similar programs have a "+" for expand, and, ......most of those programs also have and "expand all."

No, I don't want to be misunderstood: I simply wanted to show 1) that those four "points" are telling the user "loudly and clearly" there are errors found and 2) that's almost impossible to think there are no errors because the captions/headers aren't fold out.

It was simply an answer to airborne who wrote: "...Some people who isn't computer geeks don't even understand they had any error on their computer, as they don't understand the new system.One friend of mine don't realise he had any errors on his computer!"

Hi - thanks for clearing that up.

My whole point is this. If I'm debugging a system, I want to get to the errors quickly. (Yes, I disabled that summary screen a long time ago - I assume getting it back is a dat file edit.)

So, I may be running the Registry scan several times looking to clear a problem. Having to expand the list each time seemed cumbersome. The owner (jv) has already suggested a stop-gap solution and maybe even adding a box to "expand all" later??

I keep being told that "some have ask for these to be removed" (the tools on one screen, the expanded error list being displayed initially), which from personal experience in the software development world seems unusual -- that users would ask for things that have been there for generations (2006, 2007, 2008) to be removed. Typically, users are begging for features to be added, not removed.

Since both of these issues are user-controllable if provided by an "option," putting them back seems like a reasonable solution - return the "Tools on one screen" option to the Settings Tool; add an "expand all" box to the Scan results. (The first one, tools on one screen - the code for that option should already be available, too, and not new development work.)

Didn't mean to offend - getting to the tools, getting to the scan results just appeared more "task repetitive" (shall I say it again - cumbersome) in the new version.

With the "traditional" raw list format, this is not even an issue.

With the new-in-PT2009 structured list format, the program does some "intelligent" grouping of errors into categories.

If you have 100s of lines when the categories are expanded, you have to do considerable scrolling and collapsing just to see what categories are actually in the list.

When the categories are initially collapsed, you see instantly at scan completion what's there.

Then, based on category type and size, you can expand a category or two for detailed analysis and disposition. Some categories require little or no analysis and a Fix/Delete decision gets those off the list quickly. Others can require more analysis and time.

However, not everyone will work the list the same way, so an "Expand categories" setting on the "Results format" tab would allow the user to choose between an instant overview approach and a scroll everything approach.

The screenshot is an example of the instant overview approach. There would be 1097 detail lines in an expanded list.

As always Tullik IS right and I DO agree with him. At least he's a practical person and what he tells makes (always) sense. Once again he proves it here. Indeed it's not practical and it does not make sense to scroll through hundreds of lines, but an option "Expand all" is a reasonable thing, I admit...

Would it be possible to put the "Expand All" box on the actual Results screen (say at the bottom, extreme left, on the same row as the "Custom Fix, Fix, Delete, Close") instead of in the Results Format tab?

The reasoning is that if its shown on the Results page (not in the table data, but the row at the bottom), the user could, on a case-by-case basis (scan by scan) "Expand All" or not, and not have to go into the Results Format tab to make the change.

I was thinking that since the "Expand" boxes (+) are already on the left in the Results screen, having the "Expand All" at the bottom of the same screen may be helpful.

Probably more difficult to do than in the Format tab, but its just a thought --------

That's a developer decision of course.

As another alternative, perhaps he could add it to the context menus along with these other two suggested recently:

Context Menu works. Having it on the Results page works, too.

It was just a suggestion - I wasn't sure if this was the place to suggest it or if there was a "feature request" page/list somewhere.

You seemed to have a good handle on the subject.

Can you tell me if there is a "Sticky" or another pinned topic for "Feature Requests?" Is it on this Forum, if not, is there a link to it?
