On my XP Pro system, I had one key with this error. I checked its permissions, but recognized nothing obviously incorrect. Anyway, after backing up the registry with Lars Hederer's program, I clicked Fix. The program said it couldn't be fixed so it deleted it.

Did this occur with the raw list mode or structured list mode of the Registry Cleaner?

So, initially was that also a wrong analysis? Or am I missing something?

A typical way for software to register itself to the registry is:

Author\Software\

So for example:

hkey_current_user\software\Nullsoft\Winamp\

Therefore the Software Manager uses this method of guessing the name and author of the software product, usually it works, sometimes not.

It was the raw list mode.

I just restored the XP registry and tried it in structured list mode. There are different bugs.

1. Three detail lines show versus only two in the raw list.

2. The message box indicates the program is confused.

3. There was a backup dialogue, but no backup was created! The "trustedgateway" items were removed!

Then, in a separate run, I deleted the "does not exist" item. A backup was created, and the message box had correct numbers.

After restoring the backup, I used the Fix button for the item. A backup was created. However, the message box message appeared to have the header line in the entries count (it said 2 but there was only 1).

Don't know if this is a bug, but...

On Vista, 2009 b3 loads initially in minimalized state and is slow to expand to normal size.
