Fred Langa once did an expose on the hype and outright lies proclaimed by the sellers of many registry cleaners (http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=171203805), which was the basis for my purchase of RegSupremePro. This wide discrepancy between the 2008 most aggressive setting and the 2009 most aggressive setting raises my eyebrows, just the same as some products Fred reviewed.

This is simply because the product at the moment use different registry cleaning engines, the RegSupremes use the older version and PT 2009 uses the latest. After PT 2009 has been released also the RegSupreme Pro and RegSupreme will be updated to contain the latest version.

The number of errors they find varies because registry cleaning is always a tradeoff between safety and the number of found errors.

That was on my NB2 notebook PC. When I installed beta1 on my desktop PC, the column showed.

It seems the "bug" actually is that sometimes the Comments column is "displayed" with no width at all. The same thing happened in one of of the Registry Manager tabs with my desktop PC.

After such a column is drag resized to give it some width, the problem does not recur.

Startup Manager not using data in StartupCache.dat (PT v.1.9.0.487)

Although PT2009 does download StartupCache.dat from the central server, it does not use the data in its window display.

For example, StartupCache.dat contains the following item:

If you edit to make Desc=Lars Hederer, Startup Manager still shows N/A for the description of autoback.exe.

Yes, the PowerTools is compatible with 64 bit Vista. In fact, most of PT 2008's development was done with a 64 bit Vista Ultimate.

That's actually good news! I have just fixed a bug that caused the column sizes not to be set correctly, so that should also fix this bug.

FYI: It's possible that the Beta2 might not be ready to be released in this week. There are so many improvements and fixes still under way and I really want to get all of them included to Beta2.

Here is the current list of main changes since Beta 1 (already implemented, not yet released):

* Registry Cleaner is no longer read-only: Delete button, Select menu and Search now works with the new GUI

* Fixed the "Select > Most frequent column data" and "Select > Similarities in column data" menu features

* Changed the color of disabled menu items from pale pink to dark gray

* Added ability to disable Mouse Gestures from the program Settings, the feature is now disabled by default because it's not yet working perfectly with Right-Clicks

* Added the main menu back to Duplicate File Finder's result window

* Fixed a few typos from the GUI (e.g. "analyzis" => "analysis")

* Fixed the "Internal Error 091" error message from Registry Cleaner

* Better aligned the icons in the main window to better match their captions

* Fixed the mouse wheel support in the main window, now you can use the mouse wheel to change the tool category

* Fixed the health gauges in the main window

* Fixed many jagged / aliased edges from the main window graphics

* Fixed a bug from the algorithm that defines the default size of the list columns

* Added support for tooltips to the new main GUI of the main window

* Added support for hiding the health gauges from the main window (used if no health data is available yet)

* Fixed a few badly designed icons from the main window per user feedback

* Fixed the positioning of some main window icons

* Added OnMouseOver effect to the top right corner icons of the main window

There will be a few more nice improvements & fixes before the Beta2 is ready to be released. The ETA is within 5 days.

File Finder -- "sometimes" bugs

I used File Finder to list the *.lnk files in C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent. It listed 111 files. I did a select all, then clicked the Delete button. The program backed up and deleted 109 files.

Bug1: the program left 2 files on the list.

Bug2: there was no "Done" message.

I clicked "Delete" again. The 2 two files dropped off the list. A "Done" message said 2 files were deleted. They were backed up.

This is by design. None of the features of the Automation Tool create any backups. In future the feature might be improved in a way user can select whether backups should be created.

I have fixed a bug that made it possible to run the Automation Tool in a way it did create some backups (e.g. to run the Registry Cleaner), and I added two warning message to the Automation Tool. One shows when creating a new automation task, second is a confirmation that shows when you try to manually run any task.
