List filters -- too limited

The filter is case sensitive -- will this be changed?

Only the leftmost list column is filtered -- will the filter be extended to look at other columns?

Some examples of "too limited":

Software Manager -- one cannot filter on "Software" name

Software Manager -- with the Age System enabled, the filter choices are only "Old" or "New"

File utilities -- one cannot filter on "File" name, only on "Directory" path

Registry Cleaner -- one can only filter on "Error severity"

List filter input box -- delete key misinterpreted

When using the delete key to edit text in the filter box, the program acts like the "Clear" button has been clicked. This message occurs:

love the new look, have not had any problems yet but still playing .the only thing was when it asked if I wanted an analysis of my computer I did it once and it did not finish , So I rebooted and started again and this time bought up the task manager to monitor progress and it came out 85% and 95 on windows . Really I would like a progress meter on this as it only uses 15-25% on checking and it hardly shows on the HDD light. Another thing could be a digital percentage indicator incorporated into the little gauges, instead of, or as well as.

As to me the "Quick System Analysis" is rather an unnecessary (useless?) gadget, annoying the user when starting the program and taking (wasting?) huge system ressources (memory).

After running the gadget and exiting (closing) the program, the executable jv16PT.exe remains in memory and you have to kill the process in Task Manager.

Besides I am wondering what parameters are considered for PC Health and Registry Health and what's the exact meaning of those results.

Finally, I noticed that the gadget didn't do a new analysis after the first one: i.e. the first results remain always the same when restarting the program, only one and only analysis was done at my computer.

I had to delete the results manually in the "Misc.dat" Settings file to have the gadget running again :

My opinion: the gadget can be removed from the program :|

No need, I think I know what the problem is: the program continues to run the not-so-quick system analysis even after you have closed it, that's why the executable doesn't close properly.

Problem: PC Health test is very slow.

Status: Confirmed, fixed and fix confirmed by developer. The system analysis has been merged with the file cache update, this makes the user interface more simple. Also, the operation is now a lot faster, with Beta1 it took some 240 seconds with my test environment, now it takes 80 seconds. By merging these two together, the system analysis also now contains a progress indicator.

Problem: The program should have an option to automatically check for new versions.

Problem: When I click on Tools -> Add shortcut to Desktop -> Registry Find & Replace in jv16 PowerTools 2008 1.8.0.433 beta 1 an icon called

jv16 PT - Registry Find && Replace (with two & characters) is put on my Desktop, while it should be a single & character.

Problem: jv16 PowerTools does not generate a Global Mutex. This means that the (un)installer can not detect if jv16 PowerTools is running in other sessions, while (un)install will fail without warning now when jv16 PowerTools is running in another session.

The buy link creation is part of the beta because otherwise this part of the code would be left untested. By "creating the icon more than once", do you mean the program re-creates the icons if you delete it? Or that it creates many icons to the desktop even if you don't delete them?

The buy link creation has been in the program since PT 2007, it was not introduced to this version.

Status: Confirmed. However, this bug can only be fixed by totally removing the custom skin engine of the Window itself. Based on user feedback, we have decided to do this and thus bring back the standard window caption bars to PowerTools but I cannot at this stage say when this will be done. Maybe for PT 2008 before the final version, maybe after the final release.

Status: Confirmed. This will hopefully be fixed for the next beta, but at least to the final version. The system analysis will be prompted the same way as file cache update is prompted in PT 2007 at the moment (as these two features are now merged together), user will be able to launch the update manually by clicking the gauges.

Problem: The adverbial phase "mainly only" in the About pop-up is a bit contradictory. I suggest dropping the "only" …

This is indeed a really bad problem. But many people think that an uninstallation program should perform a full uninstall, i.e. also the backup files and settings of the program, therefore I can't change that. And as far as I know, InnoSetup (the setup program we use) doesn't support conditional Uninstalls, e.g. a "Also delete backups" checkbox to the uninstaller.

So I can't see any easy way to fix this, I'm afraid...

If you can reproduce the problem, please start PowerTools in DebugMode and send me the debug log it creates before crashing.

Same instruction applies to all cases when PowerTools crashes: create a debug log and send it over, that's pretty much the best way for me to try to find and fix the problem.

Probably not.

I already tried by installing it exactly the same way on my XP machine. There was no problem.

The one time it did occur, the target folder did not contain some subfolders (for example, Cache, Backups, Tasks, Snapshots). The Settings subfolder was there but only contained the two xbin files.

I expect the setup program had some kind of failure, so it would not be a PowerTools problem per se.
