The RegSupreme's are lightweight versions of jv16 PowerTools, lightweight means that many features have been stripped out.

There's no Settings window because the default settings should be perfectly fine for most users, if advanced users wish to use RegSupreme or RegSupreme Pro and change the settings manual editing of the settings file is the only way.

Seems like after I fix on item in the reg cleaner, I can't fix the others. When I right click and try to mouse down to fix, the right click context box disappears.

Sounds like you used the structured list -- try the raw list to get more reliable and positive selection feedback.

I can't confirm the above fix for the noted reason. If no one else can either, it should not delay the release. After all, it's just an informational message and may be fixed. Perhaps most users will not even see the messages (I changed Interfaces.dat so I could see the message box and extended messages).

The above item is fixed. The problem was incorrect output (truncated text if I remember right) written to SuperRegIgnoreList.dat … The structured list has many other problems summarized by the report below.

When selecting items in the tree, there is a major feedback problem between the user and the program. What the user thinks is selected (e.g., with ctrl-click) is not always what the program processes when the user picks a context action, such as "Never show again," and probably other actions as well.

The RSP Advisory now reflects the following for v.1.7.0.407:

11 fixes worked and should carry into the 1.7.0.4xx version whether it's PT2007 or RegSupreme Pro

5 fixes did not work

1 additional issue was noted -- it also applies to PT2007

2 fixes are awaiting feedback from members or jv

4 reported problems had no fix going into RC1

The list contains 10 (or 12) open issues that pertain to both PT2007 and RSP -- a few are rather important.

Note: the Registry Cleaner lost its column width memory going from Beta1 to RC1. This "discontinuity" is not counted above. jv reported he will recover the feature in the next release.

Some users have also reported PowerTools to display "Not responding" message. Windows and applications like PT communicate via Windows Messages. If an application doesn't reply to Windows' message in a certain period of time Windows considers tha application as "Not responding" because it looks like the app has frozen.

I have now made some major improvements to the code base to increase GUI response times and reduce the changes of getting the Not responding error.

These fixes will be available in the next released version, most likely released very shortly (i.e. today or tomorrow).

Just installed RC1. Ran the registry cleaner in normal mode.

Item 1. It found 54 items to fix and I ran "fix." Then, registry cleaner again and it found 7 more items to fix under the category of "Leftover Keys | Obsolete software items | Novell." These appear to be Keys without any data and the registry cleaner found them the first time through, but they were not fixed when I ran "fix."

When I ran the fix the second time, the report says 0 registry errors fixed, 1 invalid registry keys and one registry entries removed

Then ran CCleaner in its normal mode and it found these items:

9 - Missing shared dll's

5 - Unused File extensions

1 - Invalid or empty file class

1 - Invalid default icon

1 - ActiveX/COM issue

5 - Open with application issues

7 - Missing MUI references

Item 2. Sorry in advance about the length of this part. When first using RegSupreme Pro's Registry Cleaner tool, I minimized the tool window and found that it changed to a small windows of its own and covered the left part of the task bar. None of the tool windows minimize to the task bar as other windows programs do and as I prefer. There is no visible "retore" or maximize icon on the minimized Registry Tool window so you must take an extra step or two to maximize or restore it. My other windows programs restore from the task bar with one click and it would be nice to see RSP be consistent with other Windows programs for continuity and convenience.

By the way, I use my Task Bar in "auto-hide" mode. And the second time that I used the Registry Cleaner, it minimized behind the Task Bar. If I was not careful to come down to the minimized tool window dirctly from above, the Task Bar popped up over the tool window and hid it.

Perhaps more of an issue is when I change the task bar so it is not "autohide" the reduced tool window hid behind the task bar and I could not get at it cannot get to it unless I grabbed the little sliver of title bar and moved it up on the screen. Once I moved it on the screen, that location became the spot at which the window minimized.

Next I shut down RSP and restarted it. After doing so, the minimized tool windows now reduce to a spot in the lower left corner of the screen, just above the task bar.

The Registry Cleaner minized tool window shows only the "X" icon and has no "restore" or "maximize" icons. All of the other minimized tool windows show the restore and maximize icons.

Tullik, with your instructions I have now finally been able to reproduce the Custom Fixing bug of the Registry Cleaner.

The bug I reported to have fixed was only a partial solution to the problem and more drastic improvements are needed to the registry cleaner engine itself. But I'll do it and I'm now very positive that I can finally fix the problem, I'll report how it goes.

Do you plan to have a unique icon for the new RSP and RS?

If not, could you just have the old one in the program so Properties-->Change icon… can get at it.

That would help some of us keep our shortcuts straight …

Startup Manager (Vista)

I just used Startup Manager to disable four programs and immediately did a Windows restart. The four programs started (per Task Manager).

So I used WinPatrol to disable them and immediately did a Windows restart. The four programs did not start (per Task Manager).

So apparently Startup Manager is not doing something correctly.

I used the Startup Manager in v.1.7.0.405, but am posting here because SM is now in RSP and because of the common code base.

The four programs were:

READER_SL.EX (Adobe)

SIDEBAR.EXE (Microsoft)

MSASCUI.EXE (Microsoft)

WMPNSCFG.EXE (Microsoft)
