RegSupreme Pro 1.7 RC1 is now released, you can download it from:

(if the link doesn't work, it means the beta testing for this version has already ended)

Warning

Do not install this program over any previous version of RegSupreme Pro, always install beta and RC versions to a new directory. This product version is not an official release, it will contain bugs and can cause harm to your computer. Do not download or install this program unless you are willing to take the risk and understand what beta testing means.

On Beta Testing

All beta testers who submit valuable feedback, such as bug reports, performance reports, improvement ideas etc, will receive a free personal license for the product after it has been officially released. Simply installing and testing the application doesn't mean that you would automatically receive a free license, free licenses are issued only to those who submit valuable feedback.

General Release Notes

* All the current translations are included in this version, although they need some minor adjustments to be compatible with the new RegSupreme Pro, RegSupreme and jv16 PowerTools products. Feel free to do these modifications and send the updated translation files back to us, there shouldn't be any more changes to the translation files.

* The Help > Check for updates feature doesn't yet work, this is a known issue.

* This version doesn't work with Windows 9x (most likely crashes)

Changes from the last beta version

* Most, if not all, non-trivial reported bugs are now fixed.

There's no Settings dialog?? How does one set where to put backups?

On a more positive note, both RegSupreme and jv16PT RegCleaner find the same items. (Don't say I never say anything good . . . : )

Well, improved shouldn't necessarily mean that it finds more but that what it finds is more accurate. IMHO at least.

But, at least I know that my system has only the same errors even with an improved RegCleaner engine. lol

Suggestion

The backups made during a registry compaction should be listed in Backup Tool.

Some people, like me and I'm sure many others that care about their system not being loaded with junk, would like to be able to easily find and delete these files.

Not such a bad idea. The problem is, however, that it wouldn't be possible to restore those backups with the Backup Tool (because that could only be done from the Recovery Console or from DOS at Win9x systems), and that could seem rather confusing to many users.

Initial Observations

1. Tasks and Snapshots folders created, but will RSP use them?

Running Vista Ultimate

Have just downloaded - RegSupremePro_setup_RC1

So far I have not been able to install the program, as soon as I start to install I get the following popup and that’s all.

“Access violation at address 00597692 in module ‘RegSupremePro.exe ‘. Read of address 00000000.”

I think something is badly floored with this program and it is nowhere near prime time ready.

Do you run 64bit or 32bit version of Vista Ultimate and do you use an antivirus product with a realtime or residental scanning features? Have you tried to uninstall and then reinstall the RC1?

It's better to wait a while and to make ONE report with several sections than FOUR different posts one after another...

Please re(read) the sticky "How to organize beta-testing reports & feedback" at the top of the "Beta Testing" section :

jv16 added in a subsequent post "Try to send many comments at one time in one post. Please use paraghraps and make the post easy to read, writing bug reports is not a poetry competition. Avoid very long posts, divide them to multiple posts for easier reading."

If you use File Finder, you can find those files and get rid of them. Save your FF settings as a named preference so you can do it again later.

You do have to wait until windows frees the files. For whatever reason, there are open handles on the files until you reboot.

Like tullik said, it's rather easy to use the File Finder to delete these backups. But, you are correct, there should be something directly at the GUI. I think the idea of adding something to Registry Compactor itself is an excellent idea and it will be done.

If there is a valid reason to change the language file before the final version of RegSupreme Pro I'll add this feature to Registry Compactor, if not, we'll have to wait for the next modification of the language file. This will happen at least on the release of PowerTools 2008.

If or until jv writes a stripped down Settings Tool for RSP, RSP power users have to ask questions and be willing to edit .dat files in the Settings folder ...

By default, the Backups folder is right there in the installed target folder.

I'm willing to wait for it in PT2008. Whenever implemented, it should also clean out the many old LOGn (n=1,2,3,...) files windows leaves at the hive locations.
