I haven't been able to update this blog lately, I spent the entire monday in Estonia and on the last week there was the traditional midsummer's holiday in here.

I'm afraid I will not be working for a full week in this week either, I will have to leave to another city in Thursday (to first attend to a funeral and then a wedding).

But I will be working today and I'm hoping to release a new beta version of the PT 2005. There wasn't any serious problems in the last beta version but I want to make it perfect before releasing it to the public.

I have today read Barnabe's latest bug report and fixed all the bugs in there, nothing big but bugs nevertheless.

Currently I'm working on to improve the Software Manager to show the Author data on more software.

I will be working late today since I started working later than supposed (because of the trip to Estonia yesterday).

I have now finished the improvements to the Software Manager, the tools ability to detect the softwares' author data is now about 10-15% better than before.

Barnabe pointed out one rather annoying problems with the program - it doesn't handle long lists very well. For example, use the search word "Windows" with the Registry Finder and you'll see what I mean.

I have already made some small improvements but really fixing the issue would require rather dramatic internal changes. I don't yet know whether I should do it now or postpone it for some later release.

Still reading bug reports and fixing bugs, most of these bugs are, by the way, bugs that are present in the latest public version of the product too.

So delaying release of the new version doesn't only help me to fix the bugs of the new features but also bugs in the old code and thus highly increasing the overall quality of the program.

I'm currently trying to find a certain bug relating to the Duplicate Finder, it acts quite strangely if you run it two times on a row with identical settings.

About one more hour and then this day's work is done. Looks like the new beta version will not be released today but tomorrow.

I have started this beautiful rainy day by reading the bug reports and trying to find more things to fix and improve.

A new beta version will be released later today because I must tomorrow leave and I come back to work the next Monday.

I have so far fixed the text of the About window. It said you are using a trial version even if you had a license.

Also, I added the Preference Saving feature also to the Duplicate Finder.

Lack of blog entires doesn't mean I'm just being lazy, sometimes it does, but not today.

I think I have now fixed the problem that causes the trial period to be terminated on first run on some users.

I'll still fix a few another things and then it's ready, for now.

A few hours of overtime, oh well.

I have now read through the last (I think) of Barnabe's reports and fixed a few dozen bugs.

There's one more bug to fix, after that it's time to release a new beta version.

It's 8, the sun is shining and I'm back working.

I started the day by reading the reports on the jv16 PT 2005 Beta4. So far, everything seems good.

Next I'm going to read Barnabe's report, it might take a few hours.

Based on Barnabe's report, I found one bug from the product's date sort feature. This is good news for the users who have reported that the sortting by date doesn't work - the problem is now fixed.

I ended my hunt for bugs, now I'm updating the Handbook. That could easily take the rest of today because of the large number of changes.

The update to the Handbook is almost done, I think I will finish it and then call it for today. It shouldn't take more than a few hours.

I finished the Handbook yesterday, everything is ready for the release.

I'm still trying to find some more bugs to fix.

I spent a little over hour reading Barnabe's latest report, his ability to find bugs no one else can is just amazing.

I fixed again a handful of bugs. I am a bit concerned about the perfomance of the Software Manager's list generation, it became very slow after a few improvements I did. I will now try to make it faster.

The generation of the list takes 13,34 seconds on my rather fast computer, that is just not acceptable. I'll take a time of 5 seconds to be my goal, without decreasing the quality of the results, of course.

I'll continue the bug hunt after this.
