I don't have a Progress View with these tools.

Now i don't know if this whas by design.

After clicking Apply, FO finishes its job and disappears.

The message box remains showing ": Done!"

If you then close the main PT window without "x'ing" the message box, the message box stays in the system as an active (though stupid) task.

When you do "X" it, it goes away, but both of these behaviors have been observed (at different times):

1. PT drops from the task bar, but jv16pt.exe remains as an active process in task manager -- you have to kill it.

2. PT remains on the task bar. Repeated clicking on the PT task bar button causes a null window to "load" repeatedly. That is, a disappearing title bar "floats" from the task bar to the desktop, or from the desktop to the taskbar. Closing the PT task bar button drops it from the task bar and the jv16pt.exe active process in task manager goes away.

I Wanted to rule out my firewall or Ant-Virus etc...

So i closed everything (even my internet connection), and tested it about the same as tullik does. And it still remained.

It would be a good thing for the Main Window to check and close any running thread/window.

I just used FO as an example because it's easily repeatable.

I've reported similar problems in 3 or 4 other posts -- probably has something to do with the new message box ...

Status: Now fixed, are there still other similar "main features" which lack the similar progress view?

In PT 1.7.0.356:

1. Registry Cleaner: when you just do Remove, there is no results message.

2. Backup tool when you restore mutiple lines.

3. Start Menu Fixer when going through all user accounts

I open the app and hit File | Backup Tool and then Tools | Create a Custom Backup | Backup My Documents Folder. It starts the process but there's no real way to abort it from backing up if you want to cancel. All you can do is hit the close button (while it continues to run in the background), then go back in under the same section, hit the File Backups tab and then hit the Remove button.

This could be a whole lot cleaner of an operation. Consider adding a "minimize and work in background" button or something that explains what is happening and maybe include a status indicator as well. Just closing it would have most users think they've stopped the process, but this isn't the case at all.

This has probably already been mentioned...hovering over items for longer than a couple of seconds seems to make the window move to an inactive state like it's trying to open something in the bacground.

Hovering on the text, like Automation Tool (for about 1 second) and then doing a mouse-over on the icon itself causes it to disappear in many instances. This is true for most icons I see on the menu.

File Cleaner | Options | Scan the following drives...consider selecting C by default instead of making a note about manually selecting C. If nothing else, select C by default and make a note about it, suggesting to enable other drives as necessary.

Tools | Run...consider making the Run window active after making this selection so we can begin to type in the Run box right away after making this choice instead of re-activating the PT menu.

This is an old problem. Administrator privileges are not found.

When I run registry compactor or registry cleaner, I'm warned that I'm not an administrator on my computer. I am a local administrator anyhow.

I use my PC in an AD domain. I am not administrator in the AD directory, but I am a member of my local PC administrator group (i.e. AD\my_id is a member of the local PC administrator group. I have a roaming profile.

When I wiped a floppy disk which took 20 minutes (seems like a long time to me) the message box said done, but the program's main windows disappeared. What if I wanted to wipe more disks, wouldn't I have to reopen the program again? Doesn't make sense to me. :(

Start Menu Fixer - v1.7.0.356 - Request/Suggestion

Totaly forgot to mention this erlear.

Everytime when i use this tool, and check my Start Menu, it keeps the empty folders.

I Realy would like an option to have empty folders be removed also.

That will realy Fixerer my Start Menu :).

The One Click Cleaner already allows you to run the History/MRU Cleaner and flush temp dirs. And, the One Click Cleaner will also contain a simple way to make it run these cleaning tasks at every system startup.

Suggestion - Remove from list option for RC & RF

For selected lines in Registry Cleaner and Registry Finder, a context menu option of "Remove from list" would be handy when one wants to study just a few lines in a large list, and leave most lines for later (another scan). In this situation, "Never show again" is too cumbersome to undo.

For example, one would select the few lines by clicking the boxes or using the Tools-->Search menu, then Select-->Inverse, then right click a highlighted line to select "Remove from list."

Voilà -- a short list of only the desired items.

One can do this now with the file and directory tools.

Is it feasible for trying with the registry tools in a beta version?

I did a quick test with a few products to compare them against jv16 PT's new History/MRU Cleaner. The results are:

jv16 PT 2007's History/MRU Cleaner: 1307 items**

CCleaner: 1160

MRU Blaster: 316 items

Ad-Aware: 20 items

(* = With heuristic analysis enabled, ** = With heuristic analysis disabled)

I think the scores look rather good 8)

Two bugs found, one is in the file cleaner, even if i checked only my C drive, file cleaner would display results from D drive as well, interesting point, no other drive but checked C and unchecked D would be displayed even that there are other drives (E+). This issue was checked on two boxes an verified.

Second bug, a variation of the registry cleaner "abort" bug, when abort is clicked it will continue scanning and display an empty results window, it also requires a few clicks to become grayed out.
