Ideas for jv16 PowerTools 2007

Hi,

I thought of a nice feature for PT 2007:

I read somewhere on the internet that when windows is started and the programs in the startup-list get loaded into the system tray, these programs all load at once, causing the whole process to take too much time (because of the competing access to different disk areas (?) etc.)

Am I right if I say that Windows would start faster if the programs in the startup-list were set to load the one after the other, only one at the time?

If this is the case, then you could improve the PT 2007 Startup Manager by allowing it to force the programs of the startup-list to load one at the time...

Customer feedback: I doubt that I'll be interested in the new version of your product. I've watched this software evolve over the years, and for a long time I wouldn't license it, because it simply didn't have the fit and finish I expect of product software. I finally did ante up during one of the LangaList promotions, but I don't use PowerTools for any serious purpose, because the software is simply too quirky and unreliable. To be blunt, there's no way I'd turn a defragger you developed loose on my system. Quality problems and inadequate testing are still evident in PowerTools. To see the sort of thing I'm talking about, use the 2006 version for a little test. Turn on the aging feature and run the software, startup and registry managers, selecting all and marking everything as old. A few days later (after the registry has changed a little) rename the files in the Settings directory that hold the aging data. Then, create new versions of these files by again running the managers and marking everything as old. Now, compare the two versions using a file comparator. You will be astounded at the discrepancies in the two versions. Some programs will appear in one version but not the other, even though they've been installed all along. Other programs may be listed differently in one version than the other, even though nothing about these has changed. It is this sort of inconsistency that casts doubt on the reliability of your code. And this is just one simple example! You don't need more features (and you certainly don't need to include a defragger when there are freebies like 'contig' available), but you do need to produce software that works predictably. I'd advise you to spend more time on testing and quality, and less time on cranking out a new major release with different features every year. CCleaner has a far better product than you do. It has its limitations and it's not feature-rich, but it works as advertised.

I kind of doubt it, modern computers have quite a lot of processing power and the cpu usage doesn't often even hit 100%.

Running the programs one by one could make the startup faster if there are many programs which use the hard drive a lot, or other slow resource of the system.

But I'll do a little test about this some day and see which way is faster.

This is what Ray Geide (Super Win Software) writes here about his program SpeedStartup:

"Level Three - Run Needed Items One at a Time in Lineup

Windows runs all startup items at the same time causing a major bottleneck of resources. Running them one at a time frees up resources and speeds up the whole process"

I guess "Mathieu" has almost literaly mentioned that text ...

And what to say about Startup Faster! 2004 here , where I read this:

"As you may know, some programs will load automatically together with Windows startup. These programs are normally called "Autorun program", on a computer used for several months, there're usually 30-40 programs launched on the same time on startup, the more programs get launched on startup, the slowr the computer will be. That's why some top-level computer looks not that fast, even not faster than a lower level computer with Startup Faster! 2004 installed"

Why integrate all such existing things in the PowerTools?

As to me, I find there are already enough tools in PT (with now from 2007 on also the Disk Defragment Tool included) ...

I'd prefer further finetuning the existing tools and solving the existing bugs and shortcomings (if there are any : )

Well redseujac : I know that other startup-tools already exist, but I find it beter to be able to do everything with jv16 PT... just a matter of taste.

But I agree it is important to solve the last bugs at first.

Of course. Many users have reported jv16 PowerTools 2006 to be compatible with Vista already.

I'd like to request a change to the Registry Monitor's compare feature. It currently will not search for difference if you don't specify something for it to find. It should compare and note any change whatsoever, especially when tracking down registry tweaks.

2)Is it possible to add an ignore list function to reg cleaner ? In fact a lot of "SEVERE" mistakes in the registry are detected at first run BUT many of them are related to ANTIVIRUS (KASPERSKY) activity ; these may be very dangerous to remove or even "fix " ; an ignore list would function would be extemely usefull ;

3) Disc defragamenter is an excellent function and works magnificently with a lot of very precious indications ; this is FAR from beeing the case of REGCleaner where it is needed to be expert to know what yopu are doing ; I tried the tool very many times ; a lot of keys appear as erroneous and belong to special programs linked with (e.g) printer ; using the repair function just harmed the program ; it never happened with previous versions (e.g ) 2005 of JV PT ; My questions relative to errors in the registry remained unanswered ; in disc defragmenter , a baby is able to understand what he is doing , this is not the case for reg cleaner from far . Well I just tested it and it works great my drive was need defragmenting according to perfect disk, and now after useing jv16 defrag, say drive is in good condition, excellent work.

I would really love to see a full featured registry editor, something along registry workshop, its a shame jv16 uses the built-in editor. Also i think the registry compactor should give you an immediate option to restart the system, instead of just telling you to do so.

I think this program should include a detailed yet easy to read list of complete computer information. Another feature I would like to see is a built in file recovery tool that can retrieve deleted files. Another feature could be to monitor network usage or even be able to monitor complete activity on other computers in the network (ex. live screen feed, sites vistited, programs used/running, chats, etc.). That's all the features I have on my mind right now. I really love this program and would love to see it mature into a very sophisticated and powerful tool that you can take anywhere (portable : ).

About Jv16 Version 1.7.0.420 and Jv16 Version 1.7.0.422

1-)Your Jv16 version 1.7.0.420 and 1.7.422 have both the SAME ignored problems, nether of them can set any of the programs in pause and later on resume the action taken, what ever the action may set to be.

2-)My computer has a physical memory total of(Kb), with software Windows XP SP2 Professional system, but when I would like to organize files and folders with a File Organizer on my computer, par example i tried the file:"WINDOWS":

-Largeness: 5,54GB (5,952,284,033 bytes)

-Largeness on disc: 5,32GB (5,719,851,468 bytes)

-Containing: 26,445 Files, 4,482 folders.

I must wait more than 12 hours to get 1/10the done of the complete file, AND got NO entrance to any program, because of more than 97% or some times to 100% of CPU usage, is that normal, more than 12 hours long, and still not getting done?

How long must I sapless wait to get my complete computer done with File Organizer Jv16 Version 1.7.0.422 ?
