Windows XP Pro, SP2
I've run the normal scan three times and the aggressive scan twice. There seems to be a core group of reportedly invalid items that persist after running the ScanSupreme "Fix" and I am wondering why that occurs.
There are seven items all showing a problem of "useless empty key," and all are described as HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21 \{a long sequence of numbers} Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Assist \{another long sequence of numbers}\Count.
There are seven more items shown as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Assist\{sequence of numbers}Count -- also with the problem identified as "useless empty key."
Next are a set of five items with problem shown as "invalid help file entry" and cagegorized as HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Help
Next there is one item shown as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main with the problem described as File "C:\Windows\system32\blank.htm" "does not exist"
Next come two items shown as HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21\{followed by a long sequence of numbers}\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run\ with the problem identified as File "C\Program Files\Word Perfect Office 12\CorUpd.exe" does not exist.
The last item is down as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run\ with the problem also dentified as File "C\Program Files\Word Perfect Office 12\CorUpd.exe" does not exist.
As mentioned above, I've run the Fix four times now and these items continue to remain.
The Registry Cleaning Report states that the registry fixing procedure is now completed. It was possible to fix 5 items, 18 items had to be removed in order to fix the problems. You can undu all of the changes from the backups.
At the same time, Windows Defender Beta 2 pops up and states that Internet Explorer configurations change occurred. This agent monitors end user and security related configuration changes made to Internetr Explorer, including the default home page.
Detected changes: New: %SystemRoot%\system32\blank.htm
Original: Not available
iemain(New)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Local Page
Advice: Allow this configuration change only if you trust its origin. It is recommended that you run a Quick Scan if you chose to block this change.
Checkpoint: Internet Explorer Home Page
Category: Configuration Change
I have my Internet Explorer and Firefox to open to a blank page. The Windows Defender only shows a report re: IE. I allowed the IE change in Windows Defender, but it continues to come up with the same report each time.
At one point, I did see a pop-up from Spybot Search & Destroy Resident indicating that a change was denied based on my list, but saw that only the first couple of times and it has not appeared since.
