I just tried Winfindr and, as advertised, it is FAST!

However, it didn't really seem to be helpful for the particular search I was trying to accomplish. Winfindr was giving me much more than I was looking for!

So I wanted to mention some thoughts:

I just needed to locate a mis-located pdf file. (Actually, it's a pdf scan of my IRS Form 7004 requesting an extension for filing my federal tax return. I created it around 04/12-14/2023.) That file wasn't in the folder where I THOUGHT I'd placed it. I couldn't imagine wher else I might have put it and I couldn't offhand remember exactly what I had named it. But - having recently downloaded "Winfindr" (v1.3 Preview ) - I thought I'd try to fine that file using Winfindr.

I set it to search only for "Files" (by unchecking Folders, Registry Keys, and Registries), but that was all the limitation I could find to use. for the search. I tried searching on "7004" (the IRS Form #), "IRS", and "extension", but all those gave me WAY too many hits.

So I tried looking around in Winfindr for other options that might be useful to limit my search, hoping at to least find a way to limit the results to just one or two "File Types" (e.g., only "pdf" files) or perhaps a "Date Range" (e.g., "After 4/1/2023"). But if Winfindr has such options, I didn't find them. Did I just miss them? Or were they not included? If the latter, might it be possible to add them?

I did notice the example of a user adding a line to the search (such as *.zip), so I tried starting with *.pdf on the first line, then I put "7004" on the second line. That search produced 63953 hits. So there's still some winnowing down to be done.

Is there another command I can add as a line to the search that will cause results to be limited to just a specified file date range?

However, both "file type" and "date range" seem like tools that would be more useful if presented using checkboxes for "file types" and "fill in the blanks" for dates. Perhaps set up the form so users can "Add" each of the various file types to be included/excluded from the search so you don't have to imagine in advance all the different file types people might want to include/exclude from the search. That way, the user can "build his own" list of checkboxes.

Also, I'm still not sure whether Windfindr searches for the specified content in both filenames AND within those files or just in the filenames? I did see that it looks inside ZIP & RAR files, but I didn't see whether it also looks inside files that contain searchable text (such as an OCR'd pdf file. a DOCX file, etc).
