The ID column (directory names) in the Backup Tool (all three tabs) does not sort correctly.

Note: These directory names also sort incorrectly in windows explorer.

Note: They sort correctly in the Directory Finder results window.

Question: The Directory Finder does not find the Power Tools Backup subdirectories in the active PT Program Files folder. Is there a reason for that?

Directory Tool (and probably Directory Finder) won't resort the Directory column

Drag and drop of PT Backup subdirectories places them in the list in an ascending sequence. Clicking on the directory column to get a descending sequence has no effect. After placing subdirectories from another folder into the tool, the column sorts, but only by the high order part of the string. The sort routine is not considering the full length of the strings in the column.

In PT v. 1.5.2.336, the column now sorts, but the sequence is not correct

A similar "no sort" problem exists with File Finder (and probably File Tool). The File Finder test case had 88 lines with this string format in the directory column: C:\- Garbage\Future\jv16 PowerTools 2006\Backups\******\. The filenames were Index.dat and Entries.reg.

Fixed in PT v. 1.5.2.336

Yes, this is actually by design. The core file and directory finding functions all ignore the PT's own backup directory.

Not ignoring it could result in very funny situations where you delete some files (e.g. with File Cleaner or File Finder) but when you run the feature again the files are still there. The files aren't actually still there, but the program finds them again from its own backup directory.

Or, you could also easily delete your own backup files with the File Cleaner if it would also analyze the internal backup directory.

I'll get back to you with the other reported bugs on Monday.

Thought that might be it. Thank you.

I was trying to get the subdirectory names in a list to see if anything sorted the names in a human-intuitive fashion.

Copying the entire PT backup structure to a location out of the active PT directory did the trick. 8)

This bug is now fixed, thank you for reporting. The next released version will contain the fix.

I have also added some debug code that should help to solve any possible future sort problems: when you run the product with the Debug mode (see: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1122) the product will add the used sort method code to the column you clicked.

If the sorting is not correct just report the code and that should help me to fix the problem faster.
