JV16 PT hangs after initial cache collection

I have just downloaded, purchased and tried to install JV16 Powertools 2005. The install appears to complete successfully. When starting the program it runs the initial cache collection which indicates successful completion. The program window remains "non highlighted" and non-responsive, appearing never to regain control. I use Task Manager to terminate the program.

I am running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition with all available service. I use Zone Alarm Pro (current release) and am running the Earthlink Protection Control Center software. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I have tried running with all other software (including Zone Alarm and Earthlink Protection Control Center) terminated but nothing seems to help.

Any ideas on other efforts before I give up and ask for my $ back?

I don't think this is not a reason to give up so quickly and ask the money back, as this is not a general misbehaviour of PowerTools.

As "jv16" - the developer - is quite busy in finalising the new version of PT 2006, I think if you contact

support@macecraft.com

they could help you to resolve this specific problem.

Hi Willy,

That is good advice from jepe.

While support@macecraft.com works on that cache update problem, you might try turning it off.

That way you could evaluate some of the product features other than registry cleaning. I think File Finder and Registry Finder in particular to be worth the product price even if the other features were never used.

You turn off cache update from the main tool window using File...Program settings...Network features. You may also have to say no near the end of setup -- it has been a while -- I have forgotten. :

It would be best to wait for a cache update solution before trying Registry Cleaner.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was going to send a note to support but saw a reference that it was just for persons who paid extra for support. I found this to be an unusual statement considering I just paid for the product. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I normally would have tried the software before purchasing it but based on recommendations from The LangaList I thought it would have been a trouble free experience. I should have known better.

However, I believe you can say "no" to the cache update. :)

And since the network features are not the problem you were having, you can evaluate Registry Cleaner as well as everything else.

The cache update captures directory and file information to speed up certain searches and enable certain "data fixing", but otherwise functionality should not be impacted.
