Suggestion GUI Change for Registry Cleaner

I'm beta-testing 1.5.2.323, and I have a GUI-related request for the Registry Cleaner:

When choosing to fix (and backup) registry errors, a dialog box appears with a default description for the backup.

In one instance the default description was (approx.) ", @, @, @, @, @, @". the nest time it was "{KEY} : Obsolete software entry"

I believe a more useful description would simply be date and time, e.g., 20060222092359 (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS). From this start point, a user could add if needed. Either way, the user will have a chronologically ordered set of backups from which to select if needed, which is more useful than ", @, @, @, @, @, @"!

Any thoughts on this idea?

The backup tool can already show the creation date of the backup and one can also sort by it, therefore I don't think there's not much need to make the default description the date as well.

I understand, however not everyone uses the Backup Tool. For those that use RC, they're only going to see the spurious description and have to change it or live with it.

Regardless, As long as *some data* is going to pop up in the description box, why not have it be something useful?

On the other hand, you could have the BT handle RC's backups (when required), but it just seems easier to improve to default backup description within RC.

If one doesn't use the backup tool, one will never see the description again, so it is easy to live with it.

As jv points out, defaulting to the date is redundant. The RC default is not spurious but a string of the entry-names from the lines being backed up (probably partial if a lot of lines are involved).

If one doesn't want to see that, or type in a meaningful description, one could simply replace it with "." or "*" or a number.

I believe every tool handles its own backup creation. The Backup Tool has two main purposes:

1. Display existing backups

2. Handle restores

So the Backup Tool is really a Restore Tool.
