Registry Cleaner problems in RC1 (v1.5.2.322)
Here are some preliminary test results. Only the adventurous should read below the line ...
Conclusions:
1. There is a minor bug in setup and another in the backup tool's custom restore feature. Both have workarounds.
2. Registry Cleaner is much better than in beta4, however, some problems exist; some are severe. There are no workarounds.
(a) Some lines appear and drop from the list in different runs for no apparent reason.
(b) What you tell it to remove does not get removed; part of it may.
(c) What you tell it to backup does not get backed up; part of it may.
(d) Jump to regedit fails for some lines.
(e) If you select and remove more than once in the same RC results window, only the last set is backed up. Note: based on a single test.

RC1 test results (confirming beta4 bug fixes, and ...)
2006-02-16 #1
(0) Install (on dt1)
Verify that specified target directory Is used.
... Setup appends "\jv16 PowerTools 2006" to selected preallocated (and empty) destination directory. (minor bug?) Workaround: remove the appended text.
Verify that Setup and Welcome settings carry into Settings window.
... Launched PT from setup close. (all OK)
"Import" beta4 Tool Preferences into RC1.
... Done
(1) Reg Cleaner in beta4 constructs bad HKLM key. Condition still present on desktop PC (dt1). Capture beta4 RC list, then see what RC1 RC shows ...
beta4 RC list showed 113 lines --- about half were "bogus"
RC1 RC list showed 57 lines -- bad HKLM key line gone ...
-- 44 were MRU dne's (OK, removed)
-- 7 were "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry" items (looked OK per regedit, removed)
-- 6 were "Useless file extension" (two probably OK; other 4 not OK -- regedit jump goes to My Computer), These are the lines, last 4 are suspect.

Added note: 2005 RC finds these two items:
HKCU\Soft\MSoft\Win\CurVer\Explorer\FileExts\.xbin\
HKCU\Soft\MSoft\Win\CurVer\Explorer\FileExts\OpenWithList\
Perhaps that is what the RC1 Registry Cleaner is trying to show here ...
Did not remove these 6 lines ...
Reran RC -- list showed 56 lines
-- 46 were MRU dne's
-- 4 were "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry" items (all on prior list)
-- 6 were "Useless file extension" -- same as prior list
Removed nothing
Reran RC -- list showed 57 lines
-- 46 were MRU dne's
-- 4 were "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry" items (all on prior list)
-- 6 were "Useless file extension" -- same as prior list
-- 1 appeared on the list that probably should not be there (???)
Here it is:

File or directory "F:\Image\Linksys.ico" does not exist
Removed the 46+4
Reran RC -- list showed 48 lines
-- 38 were MRU dne's
-- 4 were "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry" items (all on prior list)
-- 6 were "Useless file extension" -- same as prior list
-- 1 appeared on the list that probably should not be there (???) -- it did not show this time
Removed nothing -- checked backups
Backups are not correct
Backed up three times (above)
The first backup is not in the PT Backup directory -- it does not show in the backup tool
The second backup is in the backup tool, it does contain "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry" as reflected in the title. It should contain more such entries. This removal/backup was the second one done from the same RC results window. Apparently the first one was forgottren by RC.
The third backup is present, titled correctly. It contains 4 MRU dne's from wordpad's recent file list. It should contain 46 MRU dne's and 4 "Obsolete Add / Remove menu entry"
There is a minor bug in the backup tool/Custom restore feature: The first query correctly shows the registry entries corresponding to the right clicked line in the tool's list. If you right click to do a custom restore query for another line, the custom restore window is not refreshed. It still has the contents of the first query. Workaround: close the custom restore window before doing the second query.
