No reboot required for compaction (beta3)

Maybe its just me, however isnt a reboot usually required for all registry compating software. could that be why its unable to access the security hive? Winaso and even regcompact.net both require a reboot to complete the process.

Ace Utilities also requires a reboot following a registry compact.

OK, most of those tools (NTREGOPT too) require a reboot to COMPLETE the process, but jv16PT's REGISTRY COMPACT tool gives the error (about the Security hive) FROM THE VERY START of the process.

Besides there's no problem if you don't check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY and after processing all the other checked hives the tool doesn't display a message to reboot neither!

That's weird, because all other similar applications do require a reboot to complete properly the process.

Is it a shortcoming of the author?

could it be possible that the security hive is the what gets compacted during reboot. This is all speculation as I have no idea why the software is usually written to require a reboot but it does seem logical that its so it can compact the security hive. I mean there must be a reason why all reg compact software requires a reboot

I am quite certain the error message about the SECURITY hive has nothing to do with rebooting or not, isn't it JOUNI?

True not sure how jv did it. i skimmed over the source code of regcompact.net 1.8 and judging from what i looked at (only skimmed it short on time) the security hive isnt loaded like the rest of the hives which is why i had thought it could be related to the reboot. Ehh but who knows this is why i avoid writting software.. Leave it for the pros :

As far as I know a reboot is not required, but I'm not certain at this point. I will have to study the subject a bit further and solve the issue.
