Cannot start PT 2006 Beta2 because of license

Uninstalled Beta1, instaled Beta2 but now it complains about the license when I start it "No valid license file found!"

Note that I installed Beta1 less than 30 days ago ...

How can I continue testing Beta2 and provide feedback?

I had this same initial alert because I removed Beta 1 and then clean installed Beta 2.

To correct it, I just copied my jv16 2005 License.xbin into the 2006 folder.

I have no other installations of jv16, I'm a new user. And I uninstalled Beta1 so if that had a license file, it's gone.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I had tried to install the beta 2 over the beta 1, that didn't work so I tried a clean install and I still get the same trial expired notice. I don't have a previous version either.

I was able to reinstall the beta 1 and just said I did not want to keep the newer version. I installed it over the beta 2.

I've also been unable to install beta 2 over beta 1. I tired a clean install but again a no go. As tistevens mentioned, beta 1 can be reinstalled by declining to keep the newer (beta 2) version.

My beta 1 reinstall does correctly indicate the remaining time left on the trial: *TRIAL VERSION* (4 days left).

UnInstalled Beta 1 which I was just beginning to enjoy. Installed beta 2. Will not open.

It sill doesn't work. I tried uninstalling Beta2, made sure no files were

left behind, nothing in the registry that said jv16 or PowerTools, etc. I

did the best clean up I could after uninstalling.

I tried re-installing Beta2, same error, it complains it can't find the

license file.

Is there a solution to this please?

I received an email today stating the following:

"Notice to all testers who have installed jv16 PowerTools 2006 Beta2:

if you installed the Beta2 over Beta1 (or over any old version), please uninstall the product and then reinstall it. "

Uh?.....As I & a few others have previously and clearly indicated we have already tried the beta 1 uninstall and clean install of beta 2 & we get the same licence error message.

Ok to reconfirm my original findings and to humour all involved I did the following:

1) Uninstalled beta 1 through control panel.

2) Scanned & deleted with CleanCache V3.2

3) Scanned & deleted with CCleaner V127.242 (Beta)

4) Scanned & deleted all JV16 related files with Agent RanSack V1.7.3

(build 332)

5) Ran regedit that indicated this files were still in my registry & which I

again deleted;

C Files\ JV16 powertools 2006

C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\ jv16pt.exe-2572d567.pf

C:\WINDOWS\JV16PT_SETUP_BETA1.EXE--IE4

C:\WINDOWS\JV16PT_SETUP_BETA2.EXE2

6) Shutdown & rebooted

7) Reinstalled Beta 2 and again I get the following message:

"Your trial period has ended etc." :(

There seems to be the usual hidden registry security files that are not being removed during the uninstall beta process. The question is why are we able to install beta 1 after an uninstall but not beta 2?

Once again, I ran another uninstall and was able to reinstall beta 1 which indicated; *TRIAL VERSION* (2 days left).

I wonder why jv16 is not responding in this thread to at least acknowledge the problem. This is really strange.

I can confirm as well that even w/complete uninstall of beta 1, beta 2 wants a license. What's also strange is that if you browse to a place w/a license file, beta 2 won't see the license. But if you let it do an autofind, it finds it just fine.

jv16 has said before that when reporting bugs to e-mail him as well as post here.

So far JV16 2006 looks very promising and I would like to continue testing Beta2 however I'm certainly not going to loose any sleep if no solution is forthcoming. My combination of CleanCache, CCleaner & JV16 RC2 does an excellent job.
