The release of jv16 PowerTools 2006 Beta2 is delayed, I'm afraid. It should be released in next week.

If everything goes well with it, the next version is RC1 and the final version is released after it, most likely in February.

Do not install the Beta2 over Beta1 or any older version!

Release notes

* All the new features are now implemented, but not all of them have yet been fully tested. Use extreme caution (especially with the Registry Cleaner)!

* This release does not contain any kind of documentation, nor the final set of graphics.

* You can now start to translate the product to your own language. However, there still might be some minor changes to the translation file.

* There are still some cosmetic bugs (screen flickering, slow refresh times, the about screen looks bad etc)

After first inspection the registry compactor seems pretty much unusable. 1st bug which i believe is a gui problem is if you select any of the toolbar menus from the registry compactor window the compact button does not reapear and is not clickable the only way to get it to show again is if you restart jv16 pt. The other thing is it appears to be doing nothing during the actual compaction. The progress bar doe not move at all and the computer doesnt appear to be using any cpu utilization or process utilization to compact the registry.

Indeed the Registry Compact tool doesn't work.

When I click "Compact" > the message appears :"Compacting the registry. This might take a while. Please wait ...".

Nothing more happens ...

The slider bar remains empty ...

I am also have the same problem with the compact part of the program. It doesn't seem to work either. The compact button is disabled or something.

Also having a problem with the Cookie Manager. It seems to clean all the cookies form IE but not from Firefox. Everytime I go and delete the cookies, I click on other tab and then click back to unknown and the cookies are there. (same problem BlackDex has)

Besides them 2 problems I haven't had any problems On my XP sp2 system. I also like the icons.

if you installed the Beta2 over Beta1 (or over any old version), please uninstall the product and then reinstall it.

1) The compact registry does not work at all, even after reinstall and after 3 hours nothing happened

2) Folder Tool: there is no File|Add button to add folders

My system: P4, WinXP Home SP2 + all latestpatches, 512 RAM

YOU HAVE DONE AWONDERFULL JOB HERE ;however there is a pop -up error message which I do not understand and Dirctory finder still finds nothing at least at me ....There is no way to send you a screenshot on this forum ; so the error messge will be sent in another way ; however I would like a comment about directory finder functionnality Thanks OLIVIER GEBUHRER

PS As I wrote in anaother post , REG CLEANER is more efficient , more speedy then ever ! Congratualtions

It sill doesn't work. I tried uninstalling Beta2, made sure no files were

left behind, nothing in the registry that said jv16 or PowerTools, etc. I

did the best clean up I could after uninstalling.

I tried re-installing Beta2, same error, it complains it can't find the

license file.

Is there a solution to this please?

Yes, Redseujac, you are perfectly right ! iT WORKS IN A WONDERFULL WAY ! I never succeeded before and with filefinder in former versions , it never came to work for me at least !

I never complained because I thought I was stupid ... I was in fact to some extent ; only your indications were not accurate but they gave the right track : what happens is that I never typed : E\windows (e.g) , but windows alone and this does definitely not work ; now that I found out how to work with this I will play around for quite a long time ; the tool is amazingly powerfull ; but you have to give a start in a way that poor ignorant guys like me are not used to give ; the manual , by the way is not sufficiently detailed for that reason ; the manual should be crystalclear for illiterate in Micro ; it is not from far !!!!

OK, don't mention it

In fact the manual is not very clear at that point indeed ...

But you can discover it rather easily if you use the "Add..." button at the bottom right of the tab "Search in".

After clicking "Add ..." -> "Select Directory" - window pops up.

When you click a (logical) drive and then "OK", you will notice that "C:\" appears in the "Search In" - window :

That's it -> so you can see the right way how to enter the (logical) drive(letters) or directories (e.g. "C:\" "D:\" "E:\" and so on).

When you enter ALL your (logical) drive letters the search will be done for the contents of ALL your drives in your PC (in a rather pretty fast way)

I used the 1st beta on 2 different systems, both WinXP SP2 w/o any problems.

I used the following features:

Software Manager, Startup Manager, Registry Manager, Registry Cleaner, Registry Finder, Registry Find & Replace, and Start Menu Fixer.

No problems w/any feature.

As always, your software is great stuff and just about the most useful utility I have.

Ps. I'm going to remove 1 and install beta2 today. I'll let you know if I run into any problems.

Hello,

First of all I've made NortonGhost backup Image File and then I can test Beta without any serious risk ;-)

As already others said, the Registry Compact tool doesn't work at all.

From time to time the "Registry Cleaner - Scan report" pop-up window doesn't appear.

In these cases when I close main window of Registry Cleaner then a whole jV16 PT application is closing.

I've compared speed of registry cleaning for jV16 PT2005 and jV16 PT2006 Beta2:

jV2005; jV2006

Run time 30,3; 25,1

Speed 15914,12; 8706,61

Keys analyzed 299604; 151712

Values analyzed 178504; 94628

Errors found 68; 70

55high+13lowest; 54high+16lowest

As we can see the jV16 2006 is faster but I don't understand how it is possible when its speed is almost two times slower (?)

Number of errors found is almost the same but numbers of keys and values analyzed is almost two times bigger for jV2005 (?)

Because I use jV16 mainly for managing registry therefore I've checked other tools not too thoroughly so I haven't found any bugs.

If I can have a wish and suggestion: it takes many of time and work to make all items as old and make a kind of initial snapshot of system this way.

We have to make sequence of clicks (select all - make item as old - select none) 9 times (one time for Software and Startup Managers and 7 times within Registry Manager).

Is it possible to add a button or menu item for making all items as old with one click ?

Some additional information: 1GB RAM, Intel Centrino 2 Ghz (Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E8010), WinXP Pro SP2, McAfee Security Centre – there is no conflict with ViruScan. I’ve installed and tested jV16 PT 2006 Beta2 after uninstalling jV16 PT 2005. I’ve compared jV2005 with jV2006 three times (each time restoring system from Ghost Image File). Results of comparison were not quite the same but very similar.

Thank you for so excellent tool. It is one of the best software I know and I use it from the beginning (when jV16 was free of charge) up to now.
