jv16 PT 2005 licensed reverts to Demo Version

I installed jv16 PT 2006 Beta1 on 30 December.

After starting PT 2006, I also started PT 2005 in order to look at the differences between them.

My licensed copy of jv16 PowerTools 2005 showed *Demo Version* (30 days left) in its title bar. jv16 PT 2006 shows *Trail Version* in its title bar.

I tried to re-install my PT 2005 license (using Help/License Information...) without success. At first the key file was renamed something like "oldlicense.xbin". At present it is in the PT 2005 directory under its usual name "license.xbin" and PT 2005 continues to ignore it.

I uninstalled both PT 2006 Beta1 and PT 2005, reinstalled PT 2005. Even when PT 2006 Beta1 is not installed, PT 2005 still showed *Demo Version* (30 days left) in its title bar. It wouldl not accept the purchased license.

I have copies of RegSupreme and RegSupreme Pro on this system, using the same purchased license. They have not been affected by this issue.

Has anyone else reported this issue and can the change to the licensed PT 2005 be undone? Its title bar currently shows *Demo Version" (23 days left)!

I assume you have installed the beta version in a different directory?

No problems here for me: the 2 versions installed in different directories run without problems in 'peaceful coexistence' ...

The licensed version of jv16 PT 2005 is not affected nor changed in a 'demo version' ...

Yes, it's in a different directory, and as I reported, the *Demo Version* problem reappeared when I uninstalled both versions and reinstalled only PT 2005.

Browsing the forum some more since I wrote my message, I get the impression that there were similar (not the same) issues with PT 2005 Beta, when people reported demo/version expiring issues and one or two were unable to run the beta at all.

If there are no other suggestions, I guess that the next move is to do a thorough uninstall, including a manual search-&-delete of the registry, and then see if PT 2005 will reinstall correctly. I'll report what happens. (might be a day or two or three.)

An update on this issue -

I uninstalled jv16 2005 and 2006, cleaned out registry, reinstalled jv16 2005 and had same problem with license not being recognised.

Then I looked out the original version of the license key (attached to the email from Macecraft), copied that to jv16 directory and success!

Maybe the backup version of the key file - which I had been using - has got corrupted? Who knows. But problem solved.
