Nice new features ... however still no possibility to compact the registry.

I still have to do that with some other freeware (!!) NTregopt.

I rather see a registry-compacting-feature being implemented in stead of splitting files and so on ....

Registry compacting feature might be added in the future.

As far as I know, all modern operating systems (such as Windows XP) compact the registry file automatically from time to time, therefore there is no great need for manual compacting. That's one of the reason why the PT 2006 doesn't contain a registry compact feature.

I used the registry compacter in Registry Mechanic. I saw that after the first use, the registry appeared to stay well compacted through regular maintenance with JV16.

What I mean is, if I compact the registry one time, it seems to shrink in size by quite a bit. If I then check it with Registry Mechanic every few weeks, there is almost no gain to be made by recompacting (< 1%).

I use NTregopt (freeware) and Winaso Regdefrag 1.2 (freeware) from time to time. Winaso is also showing the percentage of fragments.

With about 3,50 % fragments, and after that compacting you are saving

about 1,5 MB.

Sometimes I save *more* than 5- 7 MB!

More important however, that after compating the registry with Winaso

"your registry will acquire linear structure which will reduce application response time and registry access time." (!!)

With these arguments I think a compacting feature should be implemented in Powertools, otherwise it is like drinking wine from a beer glas .....

I have just tried the beta for 2006, seems just as good as 2005 I have been a registered user seems like forever and I find these utilities to be the absolute best for speed and extremely good for accuracy,
