Update manager seems pretty lame. It is nice that it tells me something needs updating, but when I select the option to actually update it fails to impress. For example, it tells me I have a program called "Adobe Refresh Manager" which is version 1.8.0. The latest version it says is 11.1. Have no idea what this does or what it is. Anyway, I select the option to update. This takes me to a site (not Adobe) that suggests download an update. Bit sus, but I trust you guys so I had a go. This link takes me to another that says click here to go to Adobe home page. I searched Adobe. They do not seem to have a listing for this. The next entry was for Apple Bonjour. This takes me to an entry to download the outdated Apple browser of the same name. Bonjour, I understand, on my Windows is a service Apple installs and may require to connect to my Apple devices. I do not have the browser currently and have never had it on my PC. I could go on, I tried a few other links, all pretty useless to me.
Basically, I want my utilities (indeed all my software) to do work for me, save me time. Not lead me a little way and leave the rest for me. I also like it to be accurate and helpful. I do not, for example, want it to recommend as part of an update process to install software I do not need and is not part of an update.
Kudos to you guys for trying to offer more helpful utilities. This is the way to go. A software updater is an important help for many good reasons. Avast, for example, already offer this as do many others. I get it is not easy to do well, but a half-arsed implementation serves neither us as customers or your otherwise good reputation. Please get it right.
Hello,
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Software Updater is still a beta tool, with much improvement yet to be done in this area. As we have chosen the path to create our own software versions database and update it manually using our staff's labor and no automated or external feeds, this will be subject to errors, invalid version reports and outdated entries. At least to start with.
Our aim is to have the financial capacity to rent an external data feed in the near future, however, due to problematic sales volumes, this is not something that we can do, at least not for now.
We greatly appreciate your harsh but honest feedback and be sure that we are also aware of the disadvantages of the path that we have chosen for this tool. Once our sales will allow it, an external software versions data feed will most likely make this tool into an updater that we can be proud of.
