jv16 and Windows XP HOME Edition

Hi Guys,

I am currently evaluating my recent discovery of jv16 PowerTools and have a 'problem' setup on XP Home Edition.

jv16 installs OK, but when I run it nothing happens. I installed it on my XP PRO development system and it runs fine.

To set the context on my XP Home system problems, here are some of them.

1: ALT-CONTROL-DELETE does NOT bring up the TaskManager ?

2: Start>Run>Taskmgr also does not work

3: Start>Run>regedit also does not work

4: Start>Run>msconfig also does not work

now I know HOME Edition does not have all the facilities, but the 3 finger salute should still work.

5: ControlPanel>User Accounts shows NO accounts at all

I was hoping that jv16 would 'clear' up some issues but not even it will execute as will not SpyBot which I have tried.

So any ideas, similar experiences or other feedback will be most welcome.

I think you have a big problem on you XP-Home system.

All those featurs should work on Home and Pro.

It could be that there is a virus or some spy/adware installed on your computer wich i know that it can cause these errors.

Else you should try a repair-install of Windows by booting from the cd an do a repair-install and not a format ofcourse.

BlackDex is right ;here is some elaboration on what he posted ; first of all make sure that your system is not infected; try to inspect your PC IN SAFE MODE ; if safe mode is not accesible there are two possibilities : one is your PC is really infected . You got to get rid of that assupmption ; try anything (outside scan -on line scan ) to be sure the machine is free of viruses ; I do not believe A SPYWARE BBEING REPONSIBLE FOR THAT MISBEHAVIOUR ; next , but only when that's done , only when that's done , only when that's done , there is the second possibility : your config or install of the OS is not correct ; then , but only then , is Balckdex advice to follow , but BlackDex does not explain things ; he speeks crypted ; in case you are like myself here is the decryption: When you run the CD , you will have to choose ONE out of Three possibilities ; choose INSTALL (not REPAIR) ; then after the first steps you will be directed on a second BLUE SCREEN which again will offer you (hopefully ) three possibilities among which : REPAIR ; do NOT choose INSTALL that time .
