Hi,

I am a long time user of jv16PowerTools with a Platinum VIP license.

I have not yet really tested the NMV, but I noticed 2 user UNfriendly(?) features.

The System Cleaner

It took about 70 seconds to scan for 5606 items to fix.

If I close the first screen (which sums up the items and speed and health) the next screen

shows all the items to fix in certain categories. If I want to (un)check a number of item

in a category OR the whole category, I have to do that all by hand! There is no and/or button.

The System Cleaner & Software Uninstaller

If selected, then there is no option to abort the scan if one so wishes.

I noticed after the uninstaller ran it's scan, the results we all scrunched together making it nearly impossible to read.

First run found 7,180 errors. I told program - clean all. I re-booted. I ran a 2nd time and it found 7,680 errors. Something is not right.

I ran the release candidate, it said I had over 700 errors.

I cleaned and fixed everything, restarted computer.

Then ran Ccleaner and here is what I found...…

It cleaned nothing lol.

I found that my former jv16PowerTools is overwritten by the new one and this is only a free 14 days trial. what happens next?

Follow these steps to activate your VIP license:

1) start the Release Candidate;

2) click on "My Account";

3) fill in your VIP-registrated name and emailaddress.

4) restart the Release Candidate and check "My Account".

It takes a little while (seconds?) to let the program verify the registration data.

Worked for me!

Sadly, it only says: "License: Licensed version" and not what kind of licensed version,

like in my case "Platinum VIP version"?!!

I agree!

Fast mouse over has strange effects in the result window. Black lines, jumping text.

Invalid meta data

jv16 lists a lot false alarm.

I gave him steps to activate his VIP license..... THIS DOESN'T WORK, UNFORTUNATELY!

The next day NMV again says: "License: Free trial version".

Clearly something is a miss here. Never had this 'problem' before.

Not sure if it's PT RC -related but here it is.

I installed the RC version, ran it and all seemed to be OK. When I opened the computer after the cleanup, the Firefox had lost most of its bookmarks. The bookmark files had become folders (they had lost the filename extension???) and the program erased them.

Anyone else?

I just uploaded my Logfile to wetransfer. A question: How can I (safely) abort a lengthy operation without having to quit jv16pt altogether? Wehn I click the "x" during an operation (ie software uninstaller scan) in the top-right corner, jv16pt quits.

Cleaning Browser issues - no good idea!

I lost all my bookmarks in mozilla firefox. The names are still there, but the listed bookmarks doesn't work anymore.

Hi,

Another bug?!

If there are any registry errors found after scanning and one wants to check it in the Registry,

one can right-click on desired item and then click on "Open registry key...".

Sadly this feature only just starts the Registry-editor but doesn't guide us to the desired key!

Thank you for reporting! I am not sure if this is a bug or if these applications have been protected against removal. However, my feeling is that it's simply a bug in PT. These mentioned apps are so called AppX applications, it is a new kind of software delivery system that was introduced in Windows 8. In short: If you download any apps from the Windows Store, they are these AppX applications (plus some apps which come builtin with Windows are of this type, too). These AppX applications are not uninstalled the same way normal Windows apps are but there is a different process. Sounds like PT's support for the AppX application uninstallation does not work perfectly at the moment. We will investigate and get back to you!

Do notice that this number by default includes browser history and cookie data. If you have never cleaned them, and/or you have many browsers installed, the number seems very reasonable. We have seen many thousands of items found in our testing systems.

Please simplify the identification of the releases. Don't get into the mode of the Final, The Final Final, the Latest Final Final, etc. Get rid of the RC and just simply keep rolling the Build number. When the urge come to release it to the public, call it simply JV16 PowerTools and internally identify it Rev 0.0.0 or Rev 1.0.0. The comments of this version should go into this thread, as you correctly did.

This version is called "jv16 PowerTools Release Candidate" and the currently latest version number is build 288. The build number is visible in the application. The final version will be called just "jv16 PowerTools" and each version is specified with the version number, such as build 290, 291 etc.

Yes, I had more errors than I would expect, also. Mine were cookies and temp files in Firefox. IMHO, I would have them listed as something other than errors. This high number of errors seems to get us a little more excited than we should be.

I agree, browser history items or browser cookies are by no definition "errors". We'll find a way to improve the way this is communicated to the user in the UI. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for your long time support! And happy to hear the Release Candidate works as expected.

The new jv16 PowerTools will install itself by default to the "c:\program files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools\" folder. This is by design. We don't want to add the version number to the installation path, because then user could end up with dozens of versions of installed PowerTools (which shouldn't cause any technical problems but it would just waste a lot of space).

Did you use the new version's My Account feature to try to register your copy? If it didn't work, please either send me a forum private message, or contact our technical support and let them know what name and email address you used with your original purchase and we'll get it sorted. If you own a license for the current jv16 PowerTools, it will also work with the new one.
