Here is a complete list of bug fixes and improvements that we did since jv16 PowerTools – Version 4.2.0.1920 was last released on November 2nd, 2018:

Bug Fixes

Fix: The software can fail to start after installation and display an error message about not being able to create a directory.

Fix: The software can display an "Stack Overflow" or "Access Violation" message during Initial Setup or Clean and SpeedUp My Computer scan, which makes it impossible to use the software.

Fix: If user attempts to uninstall many software with the Software Uninstaller AND also uninstall jv16 PowerTools as one of these software, the operation will fail as after jv16 PowerTools is uninstalled, the uninstallation of any remaining software will not take place as jv16 PowerTools cannot uninstall them as itself has already been uninstalled.

Fix: In the case you are using jv16 PowerTools in a computer which has been turned on over 31 days, jv16 PowerTools can display an error message of "Range check error" relating to function LoadColumnWidths.

Fix: If the software's installation directory has been corrupted, the software can start with a visually corrupted user interface missing all the texts.

Fix: The software can display a "Range Check Error" message during Initial Setup or Clean and SpeedUp My Computer scan.

Fix: The software can display "System Error. Code: 1400. Invalid window handle." error message.

Fix: The Initial Setup can be very slow in Windows Vista and Windows 8 based systems taking over 15 minutes to run.

Fix: The Clean and SpeedUp My Computer scan can fail to complete at its final step and show "Out of Memory" error message.

Fix: Certain tools, such as the first step of the Clean and SpeedUp My Computer, or the Duplicate File Finder shows a status bar at the bottom of the window while there is no need to show it and it is always empty.

Fix: In some systems the Duplicate File Finder does not ever find any duplicate files.

Fix: Uninstalling certain software with the Software Uninstaller can cause the program to show "Out of Memory" error message.

Fix: If you enter a directory as an input to the Wipe Files tool, the tool will fail with an error message of "Failed to access directory" even if the directory can be accessed.

Feature Improvements

Improvement: The Initial Setup will now run up to 80% faster.

Improvement: Improved compatibility with jv16 PowerTools and Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Corel WordPerfect and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Improvement: The software will now start faster, especially in cases where the software has been installed in to the system for a long time.

Improvement: The Software Uninstaller will now find a lot more left-over files and directories of installed software.

Since the previous jv16 PowerTools update (version 4.2.0.1920) was released last month, we have developed an Automated Quality Control system which analyses all the automatically generated log data from jv16 PowerTools. This helps in finding potential errors, incorrect detection of installed software, incorrect listing of data of the Clean and SpeedUp My Computer and so on.

With a click of a button, over one hundred tests are performed automatically to evaluate the quality of the specific jv16 PowerTools version.

With the help of new testing hardware and the new Automated Quality Control system, the new jv16 PowerTools update has been through more testing than any version ever before - including our previous major release versions.

Based on your feedback, this is the direction we are heading: better quality and the new version is a sample of the level of quality which is coming in the future. So please keep sending us feedback, good or bad. Especially if something goes wrong. So we can fix it!

I uninstalled completely previous private version 1927 and installed this new one (1942) from scratch.

Initial setup is still a pain and not better than in the previous version: it still takes 12 minutes to finish. That's very long

However I have a rather fast system (see my signature). During initial setup Task Manager is reporting: Power consumption: very high, Processor: 10 % and Memory usage: 162 MB.

All that is not good enough, though it's mentioned for this new version that Initial Setup is 80 % faster :? Holy smoke...

Update to my previous message: we built a test setup with 5 hard drive partitions filled with data of different types and with very deep nested directory structures also filled with data, but could not reproduce the problem. I sent you an email asking for some more details.

That was the past (many partitions).

Now I'm working with a brandnew Samsung V-Nand SSD 970 Pro NVMe M.2 as system drive, with only ONE partition :)

My data drive (Toshiba hard drive 2000 GB) has only 2 partitions and one of them is on the Global Ignire list of jv16 PowerTools.

I'll sent you the backup dir.

The speed of initial Setup was always a problem. Here the initial Setup takes also 12 minutes. In the report file you will see my system overview.

The speed of initial Setup was always a problem. Here the initial Setup takes also 12 minutes. In the report file you will see my system overview.

If you wish to help us to fix the issue, could you please send me the Backups data of jv16 PowerTools installation? It contains log files of what is happening in jv16 PowerTools under the hood as well as details of your computer (e.g. your computer's hardware and installed software) which we can use to try to reproduce the problem by creating a testing setup similar to your computer.

To send the Backups data:

1) please go to the installation folder of jv16 PowerTools, by default this is at C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools\

2) Right Click the "Backups" folder and choose "Send To" -> "Compressed (zippped) folder"

3) Upload the generated zip file to a free file sharing service such as https://uploadfiles.io/ or https://wetransfer.com/

4) Send me the link to download the zip file from the file sharing service. You can do this by forum private message or by email to bugs@macecraft.com (Sending the zip file by email is not recommended, as the file can be too big to be sent by email and it can be deleted by spam filters)

We have received the debug data from these two users and just one minute ago, I sent both users a Private Message with a download link to a special private test build of jv16 PowerTools which attempts to fix the Initial Setup issue once and for all.

Can it still be quicker?

It will be still faster, as I can still see the Initial Setup running into some internal error states in your system. However, we have now able to reproduce the problem thanks to the data you sent - we created a testing computer with similar hardware and software as your system, and now finally we are able to see the problem ourselves too. When we can see the problem, we can fix it 8)

At first glance the most recent private version 4.2.0.1953 seems to have fixed the problem

Initial Setup takes only 3' 20" now and Clean & Speedup My Computer does the job in only 1' 30" 8)
