Not sure what happened, but I installed the new JV16 . My license was not picked up automatically. I decided to go ahead and run a couple of things and take care of that later. JV16 hung doing the initial scan for regcleaner.
All the sudden my screen started blinking on and off and I could not access anything. I was able to see an error message @ shellhelper.exe referencing a bad address or location. Sorry the blinking was very fast. Things were disappearing from the home screen as it blinked? I turned it off and rebooted.
Same thing, except now the home screen had nothing on it - could not access anything. Multiple reboots - no joy.
Fortunately I had a recent system image - 10 days old. I was able to recover the few new files using an offline boot utility. I restored my system without much fanfare, although this is always a bit tense. I have no logs or files to submit for analysis. I just wanted to alert folks that they might want to create a system image before installing.
I had already thought about removing PerfectDisk - it's really no longer needed with current SSD technology. but I decided to keep it since I also am thinking of adding a 2nd mechanical drive to move a bunch of video to.
For now I will just continue to monitor the forum. I will at some point probably remove PD and try the update, but when I do I will make darn sure I have a new image (2 copies). I'm in no hurry, the old version (v4.1.0.1753) seemed to be working fine.
All I can say is everything was fine and all I was doing was upgrading JV16.
Scary - been a user since 2009 and never had any issue. Ok, except licensing after updates....
