Very disappointed with new 2017 version [SOLVED by update 4.1.0.1657]

Windows 8.1 64 bit. jv16X reported 100% health.

Removed old jv16X and installed jv16 2017.

New version does not recognise log on details so I proceeded with trial version.

On start up health was reported as 10%. I guess it needs to scan to get an accurate health report so I ran the 'Clean my computer' in the 'least aggressive mode' which I always do after the installation of a new version then gradually work towards most aggressive in stages. There were quite a few entries found on the first run which surprised me a little but checking through them there did not seem to be anything that would cause alarm. So I proceeded with fix and saved a back up, then re-booted the computer which took a lot longer than normal.

After re-booting the desktop was blank, 55 program icons plus the recycle bin missing, lost all 11 icons and jump lists on the task bar, all the icons and clock gone from the right hand side. The Classic Shell icon for the start menu had changed back to the windows icon. Clicking on the start menu, NOTHING, no expanding window so no programs to show. Also no internet connection, I noticed this was not connected at the log on screen but thought it would be ok once I got to the desktop. Right clicking on the task bar, nothing, no task manager.

I have re-installed an image of my C: drive and I am now back to where I was.

jv16 2017? ....now in the trash, I cannot be bothered with it, life is too short and I have more important work to do.

I am sorry to read about your bad experience with our product. Unfortunately, since you have already restored your system, there is no way to get a local "Backups" copy from your jv16 PowerTools 2017 installation folder and examine for possible false positives by our product that may have occured during the cleaning process.

If you agree, please do this:

1. Download jv16 PowerTools 2017 again from https://www.macecraft.com/download/https://www.macecraft.com/download/

2. Install the product

3. Using Clean and SpeedUp My Computer, scan using the default aggression settings and wait for the report screen to show. There, do not clean anything. Instead, go to File - Save list as... in the product's main interface and save the list of results to disk. If possible, finally pack this list using either ZIP or RAR to avoid file corruption during sending.

Once done, open a new support ticket with us here https://macecraft.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/newhttps://macecraft.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and make sure to attach the packed scan results file for us to investigate. A brief description of the problem in the support ticket can be included but you may also simply link this forum thread instead and we will know what it is about.

Hope that you will agree to cooperate in this search for the issue that cause this mess at your side in the first place. In exchange, we will be glad to award you with a lifetime license for your trouble.

I can second that. - W 8.1 64-bit

Total mayhem in registry after running powertools in safest mode.

Program did not write backups - directory was definitely empty.

No *.msc services "ready" - took ages to boot.

So, not even JV16 could be run to restore something. (But as written above, there wouldn't have been files to restore anything.)

Not even explorer would work, not my 32-bit salamander filemanager, but the 64-bit version did!

However, in my case I maintained access to the internet - but in the end I, too, decided to use a recent image to fix this mess.

I will not reinstall jv16 PT 2017.

I have re-installed jv2017 on 28-12-2016 and followed the instructions as requested by support and had acknowledgement of submitted ticket.

I am still waiting for a reply.

jv2017 is still installed on my pc, but will remain un-active until I hear more from Support.

We have reviewed different use case scenarios for various 'Backups' data sent by our users as part of recent issue reports. Unfortunately, we have not yet found or been able to reproduce any of the major problems described in this thread.

If any of our users facing similar issues are interested to assist in finding these bugs (if any) then please do this (no modifications will happen to your system as the steps below do not involve jv16 PowerTools 2017 applying any actual modification to your system - you will run it for debug purposes only):

1. Download jv16 PowerTools 2017 again from https://www.macecraft.com/download/

2. Install the product

3. Using Clean and SpeedUp My Computer, scan using the default aggression settings and wait for the report screen to show. There, do not clean anything. Instead, close the product.

4. Archive C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools 2017\Backups into preferably either ZIP or RAR archive file format (other formats are welcome too)

5. Upload the resulting archive to https://wetransfer.com/ and once done, copy your temporary download link

6. Send me a forum private message with your wetransfer.com temporary download link and a link to your support ticket if any already open (or its four digit ticket number - see your support confirmation e-mail) and I will make sure to speed up the investigation for you particular case

Do not include the temporary download link of your local jv16 PowerTools 2017 'Backups' folder as this folder may contain private information about your system that should not be made public (only to be used in bug report assessment inside our lab). For this reason, the suggestion for a private message or inclusion of the 'Backups' archive in a support ticket.

Same thing here, I know of three others with the same problem. I've sent the log to support 3 weeks ago. My post on this matter is not showing up here on the form, I wander if this post will make it. With so many people having the same problem, I find it hard to believe support can't reproduce the problem there. I've read that they (Macecraft Support) are willing to give a "Life Time" lic. to another unhappy customer, but what good is that for a program that doesn't work?

I am writing about this post so that Macecraft looks at this problem very seriously regarding the bug with Windows 8.1, many of us have encountered this problem

Yesterday 17/12/2016 I decided on the laptop of my wife Windows 8.1 64 bits to uninstall jv 16 PowerTools X and install jv16 PowerTools 2017. After the first action "clean and accelerate my computer" and cleaning with settings by Fault not aggressive, I had a message to restart the laptop what I did. And there !!!!!!!!!!!!.

Thank you Macecraft, it never restarted, I arrive on the picture of the wallpaper of the desktop that appears well and no Icon, empty desktop, no keyboard key works, the Windows key does not work. No more access to the menu interface UI or metro. No more network connection not active, sound not active.

In clear yes a good cleaning, and it no longer works: thank you Macecraft. You have lost in reliability, and at the same time my confidence.

Unable to go back any application does not start accessible and thus jv16 PowerTools not accessible.

To restart my wife's laptop I had to use a USB key repair and do a system restore. And so I have no trace of the incident, but I remember.

Strong of this situation, I have this time all uninstalled, on my three machines there is no more Macecraft software. A cleanup utility must be reliable and make the user confident.

Sorry for Macecraft, I've traveled a long way with you, but for now our roads are splitting to other, more reliable utilities that allow me to restart my machine after cleaning.
