broken links in starting menu

Hello !

I did not exactly localized a problem which seems to appear when using JV16PT X v4.0.0.1513 with Windows 10 64 bits. I suspect that the item "Tools/Clean and repair my computer" deletes the links of various tiles in the welcome windows (the starting menu); for instance the links of the tiles "Windows store", "Weather forecast", "News" are broken. Is there any people who has suffered such trouble ? MR:-)

I'm very sorry to hear about the problem. Please ensure you are running the latest version, a problem that could in some systems cause this type of issue was recently fixed from PowerTools.

Thanks: my version is naturally the last one because I have a platinium version: 4.0.0.1514. The problem appeared in last February. So I was obliged to restore my computer to recover a correct Starting Menu. Now I am waiting for the last JV16 automatic update 4.0.0.1517. Can you recommend something ? MR:-)

In the starting menu of Windows 10 we find two kinds of tiles: the "Windows tiles" which are parts of the operating system; and the "User's tiles" which are installed by the user. The "Windows tiles" don't authorize uninstalling the programs themselves. These program are located in a hidden folder C:\Program files\WindowsApps\. Conversely the "User's tiles" offer in their menu an uninstalling tool. Now in JV16pt X when you start the item "Clean and Repair my computer" you receive the lists of the register keys which can reasonably be deleted. I suspect that among these keys some ones concern the links of the "Windows tiles". If you accept to delete all these keys without any discernement it results that many "Windows tiles" no more act. At present time Windows 10 v 10586.318 rejects to install JV16pt v 4.0.0.1517. It was not the case until v 4.0.0.1514. (I am a JV16pt user since year 2006). MR:-)

In order to help us pinpoint the bug in question (if any), I would like to ask that you please navigate to our product's installation folder, ZIP the entire Backup directory and send the .zip file to us for investigation.

Since sending ZIP files as email attachments can sometimes cause problems with Spam filters and anti-virus products, you should send it by uploading it to some web service such as https://www.sendspace.com/ and link the download page from SendSpace in a private message to me on the forum or as a reply to an open support ticket, if any.

If you have restored your system since the problems have occurred, you could also run PowerTools X again but instead of cleaning the system, only perform the scan (Clean and Fix My Computer) and when it's finished, go to File -> Save List As and send the saved list to me.

This would provide me more technical details of what has happened and would help us to solve the problem.

To day I receive a good surprise: I succeed to manually update JV16pt to version 4.0.0.1517 :-) Norton Security announces that the program is safe ! I decide to "Clean and fix my computer". But I want only to check the computer without deleting anything. Please take a view of the registry keys listing which is proposed to be deleted by the menu "Registry errors". I think that, when using Windows 10, some keys which appear in red color with severity 99% must not be proposed to the common users for deletion. Could you take a view of this fact on the joined capture ?

I apologize for my last report: clearly my problem is the result of a Microsoft bug ! This point was confirmed by some remarks in a paper of the Hardware magazine. The problem disappeared with Windows 1607 cumulative update build 14393.222. MR:-)

My system: Windows 10 64 bit v1607 14393.321; Norton Security 2.0; Symantec System Recovery 2013; JV16pt X 4.0.0.1536

After "Clean and Accelerate my Computer", and deleting all the keys proposed to be deleted, two important softwares (Norton and Symantec) decline to work. I was happy to be able to restore my computer by means of a restoration disk. I highly hope that JV16pt 2017 will work more securely !

Yes, always! Especially when we are talking about such a serious false positive present inside our own product.

Investigation at our side is in progress and we will surely fix this as soon as possible. I will make sure to let you know when the problem has been fixed for both jv16 PowerTools X and the upcoming jv16 PowerTools 2017, if applicable.

Is this the full backup file created by jv16 PowerTools? If not, could you please upload the full backup file to allow us properly analyze the situation?

To fix this issue, please add the word "Symantec" to Global Ignore List of jv16 PowerTools. You can find the Global Ignore List from the Settings window.

OK. But how can I reach this JV16pt configuration window ? I am ashamed because I don't see any such proposal in the menu bar ! MR:-)
