Registry Compactor Error - Failed to Access "C:\"!

I am running Win7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit and McAfee AV 17.6.555. I'm pretty sure it had worked since I upgraded to X. Any thoughts?

I have been a customer for many years and I purchased a regular license.

Do you have admin rights? After a reboot all was right again.

Yes....I'm having the same issue. I just updated the software to 1495 and now when I go to use the registry compactor, it keeps saying "failed to access C:\".

I have tried rebooting and it still continues to state this. Any suggestions at all?!

W7-x64 with jv16PT X build 1495,

There is definitely something wrong with the 'Registry Compactor'.

1. Go to Registry Tools -> click on Registry Compactor -> on the displayed registry screen select ALL hives -> press compact -> error message pops up "Please select at least one item, all previously checked hives are now unchecked.

2. Registry Compactor can not be reused unless jv16PT X is stoped/started.

3. Go to Registry Tools -> click on Registry Compactor -> on the displayed registry screen select any number of hives BUT NOT ALL -> click Compact -> click Start -> error message pops up "Failed to access C:\"

As I stated above, I'm getting the following error messages whenever I try to use the "Registry Compactor". It will not work properly after doing the update.

Do you all have Windows 7? Also, do you have other hard drives in your systems or just C drive? (For example, do you have D drive, too?) Have a previous version of PowerTools Registry Compactor worked for you?

The error message in question occurs when the Registry Compactor fails to write its data to the root of the C disk drive. Unfortunately, such data write is required in the process and unfortunately, some versions of Windows are quite protective about allowing software to write files directly under C:\.

As I indicated, I have Win 7 and RC has worked on this system in the past, and I think even since I upgraded to X. The problem seems to be with the most recent updates, perhaps the last two.

I have two physical local drives: C (with a logical drive D) and E, and an external K drive.

Running W7-x64 with jv16PT X builds 1487, 1492, 1494, 1495

Build 1492 is the last build with a proper functioning Registry Compactor.

Yes...I am also running Windows 7 Professional and until I updated the JV software to its current/present version, this feature worked fine every time. It was until the update to 1495 this issue began.

We are working on a fix, a fix should be available later in this week.

Also, the next version of PowerTools X will include an Auto Update feature which will automatically download and install updates to the program (if enabled). This means you no longer need to go to our website, download and install the new version for every new updated version 8)

This issue is now fixed, thank you for reporting! The fix will be included in the next released build of PowerTools X. The next build ought to be ready later in this week.

And as said, it includes an Auto Update feature which means this should be the very last time you need to manually update PowerTools X ever again (unless you want to disable the feature, which is, of course, also possible)

Please accept my apologies if I sound a little inpatient here. I was just wondering if there was updated information when the new update/fix will be available from 1495?

I'm anxious to obtain this update/fix from the issues that were caused by the 1495 update over a week ago (registry compactor/registry fix...etc). I need to use the new updated fix of the JV software to remedy the computer issues caused by the 1495 version.

The new version with this bug fixed is currently in the final phase of our internal testing as a part of our version update procedure. I'm hoping that the new version will be released later today. Thank you for your patience!
