jv16 1487: Leftover Software Data Scan missing ?

This is on Windows 8.1.1 x64 Professional and Windows 10 x64 Professional Technical Preview B10102 with Jv16 PT X V4.0.0.1487.

Using CFMC with the slider on the "next-to-most-aggressive" setting, an element scanned is "Leftover Software Data Scan". And my systems hang indefinitely scanning this element. On the "most-aggressive" setting this element is not present and jv16 completes the scan okay. What is this bug?

I have not been able to reproduce the problem (of the CFMC getting stuck to eternal loop), but I took an educated guess what could be going on.

Can you please confirm whether the problem still exists in this private build:

Build 1488 still hangs and never completes on Position 3 aggressive slider. It is still hanging up on "Leftover software data scan".

Keep in mind there are two(2) issues here.

1. "Leftover software data scan" never completes on Position 3

2. "Leftover software data scan" does not even occur or exist on Position 4.

I'm first trying to address the "scan never finishes" issue first.

I have now identified the bug, a new test build with the bug fixed will be released here shortly.

Just to be sure, this build also creates the log files, so in case the Clean and Fix My Computer scan getting stuck and never finishes bug still occurs, please send over the log files again. Thanks!

Note: The enabled debug logging features of this build makes the overall performance of the program a lot slower than normal, as well as the file size of the program's executable bigger than normal.

C&FMC has four scan settings:

Safest (Case 1)

Safe (Case 2)

Less safe (Case 3)

Aggressive (Case 4)

The 'Leftover software data scan' is present in Case 3, but not in Cases 2 or 4. I didn't look at Case 1.

Case 4 completed all its scans, then presented its list of possible errors.

Case 3 completed all its scans except for the 'Leftover software data scan'. That scan kept running and running, so I ended it via Abort.

Note: My system is Windows 7 (X86) running with dual processors.

With PT X 1490 (beta), in Case 4, the 'Leftover software data scan' is present and completes before six other scans. Broken shortcuts, file extensions, file ref HKCR, & file ref HKLM were apparently still running (2 hours+) when the application failed due to running out of memory.

With PT X 1490 (beta), in Case 3, the 'Leftover software data scan' is present and completes before 5 or 6 other scans. After about 20 minutes, only file ref HKCR and file ref HKLM were still running. After 45 minutes, they are still running so I will abort and attach the debug log.

The text files from the Case 4 and Case 3 runs are also in the zip folder. Case 4 was not run in debug mode

Same experience as Tullik on both Windows 8.1.1 x64 Pro and Windows 10 x64 Tech Preview B10102. Now File Reference Scan HKEY_Classes_Root never completes. Attached are position 3 & 4 debug logs from Windows 10 x64 for B1490

I think that is simply because of the extensive logging, here it is with some modifications and the debug log creation disabled:

C&FMC, Case 3 and Case 4, each completed in about 3 minutes in PT X 1491 (beta).

Wow, Position 3 and Position 4 both completed in less than 45 seconds on my Dell XPS 8700 SE with SSDs only and Windows 8.1.1 x64 Pro system.

On my older machine with Windows 10 x64 Professional, Position 3 finished in 63 seconds and Position 4 finished in 70 seconds.

Jv16 hasn't scanned my systems that rapidly since about 2009.

My oh my! My Surface Pro tablet now completes the scan on position 3 & 4 in about 50 seconds. On all previous versions of jv16, I could plan on a 4-6 minute wait. 8)

Position 3 and Position 4 both completed in about 55 seconds on my T520 laptop with 256GB SSD and W7-x64 Professional.
