Hello there,

I've been a JV16 PT user for almost 10 years now, and each time have purchased licenses (4-5 times now.) Like many others here I find it weird that one would have to go through the purchase process (even if not purchasing) just to pose a technical support question. That being said, I have now taken the plunge to try version X. The first thing that strikes me, after all the hype for the past several months, is that although the interface looks slightly different, all else seems almost exactly the same as previous versions. Now for the bugs: I generally use JV16 PT as a registry cleaner based upon the great reviews by Fred Langa almost 10 years ago now. I have never been disappointed with the functions, and mostly ease of use of the software. With the new version build 1486, I have found the registry scan is much slower than before. I have gone through the settings, but the compacting function, and Optimizer function, especially, I preferred the old way, as standalone functions, rather than built in with the default on. I tried the first scan that way, and two things occurred. Several folders, which are not empty or unused, seem to hang the scanner. And 2. I use Win Patrol by Ruiware which warns me if changes are made to the system, as well as many other functions, and somehow the JV16 Optimizer has done something to my Apoint software, which is the driver for my touch pad on my Sony Vaio, so Win Patrol continually warns me that it is no longer active it is!), and JV16 claims the software no longer exists! Also, on the results page after a reg clean, 2 out of 3 times the page wouldn't allow checking any of the results, nor did the 'Select' menu item appear, so had to shut down the program, restart it, and scan again to make it work.

Oh, and BTW, I AM a paying customer, just haven't purchased the newest version yet, so should be eligible for tech support, without going through hoops to see my multiple licenses, etc., where even after doing that, one cannot write directly to tech support. It seems that, as everything else in this "brave, new world" customer service is the first thing that suffers, and the corporate mentality is what becomes paramount. Oh, to be young again.

Thank you for being our long time customer! We do not ask people to go through the purchase process just to get technical support, what we do ask is people go through the Download My License page (https://www.macecraft.com/my-license/) in order to receive the correct technical support contact details. We ask users to do that to ensure they are our customers, since we can only offer technical support to our customers. If we cannot ask users to fill in their name and email address to check their customer account status, we couldn't possibly know who is a customer and who is not.

Also, the Download My License page answers our most common technical support queries, so asking our users to go through that step allows many users to find the answer to their question very fast, and also it allows us to faster answer the other users who have questions not answered by the Download My License page.

Well, if you compare the PowerTools 2014 -> PowerTools X update to any previous ones (PowerTools 2013 -> 2014 for example), this update has been very significant and there has been a myriad of improvements, mainly to the user interface and the overall program's performance, as these were the areas our users have asked us to put more focus on.

The performance of the Clean and Fix My Computer is different to the previous versions: in some cases it's faster, in some cases it is slower. The increase of speed is due to the improvements we have made to the engine and the decrease of speed is due to the new scan types the engine now supports. In some systems the new Clean and Fix My Computer is faster, on some systems it can be slower.

If you do not wish to use the Registry Compact or Startup Optimizer, you can just uncheck them from the Clean and Fix My Computer's startup screen and they won't be ran or used.

What folders seem to hang the scanner, exactly? The scanner is analyzing the system with all the scan modules at the same time, a single item taking a long time to scan (such as the analysis of some folder), doesn't stop all the other modules from running, everything is ran at the same time.

If you are using the Startup Optimizer, it edits the startup registry entries of the system. Some software, such as Win Patrol, show warnings when that occurs. That is something we cannot do anything about, it's up to the 3rd party software like Win Patrol to decide what kind of actions it warns the user about.

The PowerTools X doesn't contain an error category that would mean "a software no longer exists", so I don't quite understand what you mean by that remark.

As far as writing directly to tech support, one chooses the 'Contact Us' link at the top of the Macecraft home page, then gets brought to the page that verifies your name and email address with the 'Continue' blue button, then is brought to the page that lists all one's licenses over the years with a couple of paragraphs below explaining how to go about getting the VIP license with a link to get 60% off, and an email address for assistance if one can't get the special license. There is also a link to be able to download older versions of Power Tools. And that's it, NO link to get actual tech support. Am I missing something?

As far as the folders that seem to hang the Registry Cleaner, it happens after the scan is done, and after I choose to create a backup, before the actual cleaning takes place. In fact the entire time I have been writing this it is still hung up on those folders, while trying to clean them, the only ones that now show up since I have done a couple scan and cleans by unchecking those folders. Those folders are c:\Users\Scott\Documents\HTC, and \HTC\Gallery, and \HTC\Music, and \My Photoshows. The beginning path up to HTC is the same as the whole path I typed above. The green progress bar is at about 3/4 of the way complete, and the folder that it seems to be stuck on is the first one ending in \HTC. The program is NOT frozen, and the progress wheel continues to spin, and I can move the window around ok.

As far as the "File no longer exists" message, you are correct, that is from Win Patrol, but only occurred after the first running of Power Tools X where I had left the Optimizer and Compactor checked, but only upon the first running. After a reboot I ran it a second (and subsequent times) after having unchecked those options. Somehow JV16 "optimized" Apoint.exe so that Win Patrol "thinks" it isn't there anymore, although it is, and my touch pad works. JV16 also seems to have removed a small application I use called Wiz Mouse (which allows the cursor focus to be in whichever window one is hovering over, so one doesn't have to click to be able to, say, use the mouse wheel to scroll, something for some reason Microsoft never built in to Windows, at least up until Win 7. Don't know yet about Win 8 or 10. I had to reinstall Wiz Mouse to get it to work again.

Hope this clarifies the issues I have been experiencing a bit; if not please respond.

The message on the Win Patrol alert, (which just appeared yet again) is: "Win Patrol noticed a program previously set to run automatically on Startup will no longer use this function. It may be this option was changed or the entire program has been removed or updated.

Apoint c:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\JV16 POWERTOOLS X\STARTUPOPTIMIZER.EXE

If you want this program to automatically start you may need to re-install or update its auto Startup option"

So far Apoint seems to still be working and starting up with Windows, but the Win Patrol message continues to appear occasionally.

Again, I have used this software for years, mostly for the Registry Clean function, but also for most of the other functions at least occasionally, and never had this particular set of issues arise before.

Well I would have sent you a private message but when trying to, received this: "We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature."

I did do as you requested, however, and looked at the file. I don't think there is anything worrying there, but if you see something you may remove the message; otherwise it may be educational to simply leave it there, and reply there as well. Don't worry about the Java entry, I deleted what seemed to be old version folders, and thus far have seen no errors with Java, so left them deleted. You will see two of the HTC folders mentioned. I did uninstall Power Tools X, but reinstalled to be able to send you the file. I think that is what the two entries are to the broken shortcuts mentioning license.xbin are.

As you also said, there is nothing worrying about the result list and I don't see any reference to the mentioned software (Apoint), so at this time, I don't know why Win Patrol is reporting any issues with that. Only the developer(s) of Win Patrol would know the answer.
