Problems after Registry Clean

I have had the same experience. Upgraded from 2013 to 2014, ran Registry Cleaner, almost 2000 errors found (a clue right there...), ran "Fix", created a backup, and rebooted. Windows said it was settuping up for first use during reboot. Blood drained from my face. Same problems as noted above when it started. Tried restoring backup from jv16, no help. Went to do a system restore. No restore points! They had all been wiped : Now I am stuck. Cannot start IE, Chrome, or Firefox. Thank you very much Macecraft Any suggestions? Please!

Windows 7 64 bit - all up to date - at least until last night...

Same problem here almost destroyed on Vista and one Windows 8 machine. Had to do a system restore.

jv16 2012 restored with the Restore Point recovery is broken. Upon launch, only the tutorial runs with skewed characters. Had to force end in Windows Task Manager.

I am very sorry to hear about the issue, I am glad that you were able to do a system restore.

Can you send over the contents of the jv16 PowerTools 2014's Backup directory? You can zip the entire directory structure and send it over to jouni.flemming@macecraft.com?

If someone else has had similar problem, please send over the backup files the program generated and I can take a closer look what could be causing this. Thank you!

I have experienced exactly the same problems. Restore from the backup also did not work. I managed to restore Windows to a previous day.

I am very disappointed as I have used this product for years without problem until I upgraded to 2014.

I believe a refund is in order as I will not be using this program again.

Files received, thank you! Are you sure you chose Yes to the backup query by the program? The backup directory does not contain a registry backup of the data removed / modified by the Registry Cleaner.

Edit: Also, if you now run the Registry Cleaner again (just run it, do not actually fix or remove anything), does it again produce over 2000 hits? If it does, could you use the File > Save List As function to save the results to a file, zip the file and send either to this thread or directly to me?

I am following this thread closely and am surprised to see that there are more instances of Registry Clean frying systems. I'm guessing that no one else had the "preparing for first use" message upon the initial reboot as everyone else seems to have been able to do a system restore to get out of this mess. I got that message and so am assuming that it wiped my restore points in the process. I tried restoring my registry from a backup I had with another program and that did not help either. At this point I'm guessing that it is not the registry that is the problem but the fact that this "preparing system for first use" process went ahead. Can any kind soul suggest how I can get my system back now please? Thanks.

Thank you to thiggy for providing the files, logs, etc to Macecraft so they can sort this out. I have to use my computer at work now to follow this progress and so unable to easily respond to Macecraft's requests.

The "preparing computer for first use" message is 100% normal, it is always displayed when PowerTools performs either the Registry Compact or deletes or modifies data during the system startup. It usually happens if there are a lot of registry errors to fix.
