Initial Setup hangs (was: Cannot Start jv16 2013)

I have an older WinXP desktop on which PT2009 thru 2012 are installed and working perfectly. As I always do with a new release, I have PT2013 installed in a new, separate folder. The install itself seems to go as expected, but the program stalls on initial startup, during the system information gathering phase. I uninstalled the original installation, re-downloaded the program, and re-installed with the same results. The program stalls during the initial startup. I've never had this happen before with any previous version. I realize my PC is old, but PT is relatively 'light' and has never behaved this way. Any suggestions?

Initial startup can take a long time (several minutes). Is jv16PT2013 really stalled?

What does the Win-XP Task Manager say, is jv16PT.exe still using cpu time while it looks stalled?

I should have said this in my original post, but the program actually stalls - the PT error window with the various tabs showing the status of different program components and processes, and buttons allowing me to continue the program, disregard the error, or cancel the program, appears. The windows says "The program appears to be stalled."

I'll give it another go this AM and see what happens.

I just tried to run the program again. This time, however, instead of "The program appears to be stalled", the error is "System Error, Code: 1816, Not enough quota is available to process this command". That's new. And the program faulted before I was able to check the task manager. I'll re-boot and try again.

I did a Google search on:

"System Error, Code: 1816, Not enough quota is available to process this command"

Several hits indicating lack of free HDD (disk) storage.

Attached is a screenshot that shows what I'm seeing now. This after a fresh re-boot.

During initial phase activities (when I can get the program to run), task manager shows that PT2013 is using 97% - 100% of my system resources. Most of the time during this phase, there is significant internal hard drive activity (which I expect), in addition so some external hard drive activity. Generally, PT2013's initial startup activities look like those from previous versions, until it crashes.

I know that, compared to newer machines, that doesn't seem like much, but on my old box, that's a lot. In fact, for earlier PT versions, I've probably had significantly less space than that during initial install.

The jv16PT2013 installation directory contains the file 'Bugreport.txt' with detailed info about errors.

Please .zip this file and attach it to this forum thread, so the developer(jv16) can take a look at it.

"System Error, Code: 1816, Not enough quota is available to process this command" indicates lack of resourses in Win-XP, e.g.

No difference. I normally run with a fixed 1GB page file. I doubled that size with no change. Then I selected 'System Managed' and, again, no difference. Re-booted after each change.

How long does the Initial Setup run before the "The application seems to be frozen." message appears?

jv, generally, the program runs about 4-6 minutes before I get the error window (if it means anything, the initial phase progress indicator usually gets to 4 bars before the program stalls). As I said, I've tried re-installing PT, tried adjusting my page file size, re-booted after every change, tried defragging, tried cleaning the registry with PT2012 - still no success with PT2013. And during the PT2013 initial phase attempts, Task Manager shows the program consuming 98-100% of my system resources.

I have the same problem on my Vista computer. I have also reinstalled...etc. but nothing helps.

It runs up to about 25%, and then it stops responding. After 15-20 min. I have to kill it from the task manager and it doesn't produce a bugreport.

No problems on my Windows7 computer.

I have now sent a private test build to users rdtmk5 and Regmos which contains my first attempt to fix the issue. I'll let you know how it goes. A fixed version will be officially released soon after this issue is fixed, as it seems to affect a few people.

My experiences so far...

System:

XP Pro SP3 running on a 10 year old IBM T41 with 320GB hard drive & 2GB RAM. Up.to.date, AVG free, Windows firewall.

First attempts I got the stall/error screen. Subsequently I reinstalled 2013 after killing AVG & all other processes I could. Then it took 35 minutes to do its initial analysis, finally coming up good.

Working with it (and I like it a lot, the extras are nice & the registry cleaner seems improved) is very slow, but it hasn't actually hung again.

So I have a working 2013... just. What is slowing it? Running with no AVG doesn't make a difference.

If you want to send me a debug/test version I'm happy to run it & report back. :|

FYI: We are working hard to get this issue fixed with the help a few forum members, who are testing private test builds. This is required, since we haven't been able to reproduce the problem in any test environments.
