jv16 PowerTools 2013 Release Candidate 1

Hello dear Macecraft,

I have a WIN7 Home Premium x64 machine.

I just tested your new JV16 Powertools 2013 RC1 3.0.0.1248. I did it on an operational machine, and tested the registry cleaner to the maximum (up to the most aggressive mode in reference mode). As I always take a full Norton Ghost first before testing, there's no problem to set my machine back to the situation before installation & cleaning the registry.

Here are my conclusions, as I am using JV 16 for more than 5 years :

1) the cleaner improved a lot on cleaning leftovers of previous installations : MS Silverlight, Windows Live (which is completely removed from my PC with the recent switch to Skype), Sun Oracle Java (which is completely removed from my pc due to the recurring montly security issues of Java), Cyberlink, MS Intellipoint/type (as I switched to MS Mouse & Keyboard center), Akamai-installer used by Nero & Adobe, Office 14 (as I have already Office15 2013)... it found almost 1200 positives in comparison to JV2012, which are rightly removed from the registry with no problem at all - great !!

To be sure I checked all related programs after re-start of my PC, and they all worked fine. There are also no issues reported in the Windows-log-files after restart.

2) I found 3 bugs & false positives, which must surely not be removed from the registry (see attachment) : Readyboot (it disactivates this MS-prefetch-function if you clean); Volatile (which is related to Norton Security), and a tapisysprep-thing which refers to the system32-map. I added Volatile, Readyboot and tapisysprep to "ignore words" for now.

3) 3 other bugs or suggested improvements:

* advanced interface setting : I cannot check the statistic-panel function - it is greyed out and does not work in the main screen as a consequence

* backup policy : I suggest to make "Always create backup" as default for this program for the regular not so experienced users

* the flush cache-option in the maintenance screen-tool does not work properly : while restarting the program it says that another instance of the program is running, which is incorrect.

I hope to have given you good input to improve this RC1 of the registry cleaner-function, and hope you can fix it before the final version of your great program.

On a small screen such as on the MS Surface Pro tablet (with Windows 8 x64 Professional), the submenu showing all the available desktop icons is not fully accessible because the submenu is not scrollable. The attached picture illustrates what I am trying to explain; however, the picture is off my desktop PC because my tablet does not have SnagIt on it to generate the picture.

This is now fixed, thank you for reporting!

This is on Windows 7 and Windows 8. As you can see from the attached picture, the desktop shortcuts and tool shortcuts are almost ALL using the jv16 main program icon. This applies to desktop shortcuts and Start Menu shortcuts.

I made some tweaks but I'm afraid it's not easy to get all that data to the screen easily. That's why there is the top panel.

I would like to see this bottom panel to be manually expandable, at the users choice.

If I am not mistaken, in previous jv16PT versions, the vertical size of the top and bottom panels were manual expandable independent of each other.

Sorry about the lack of response, this issue has been a low priority issue. But I'm now fairly sure that the issue has been fixed, thank you for reporting it again, and for your patience! The fix is included to the next released build.

On performing a complete uninstall of jv16 Beta6 and then rebooting, there were three folders that were not deleted by the uninstaller of jv16. See the pic. I am assuming that RC1 will leave these same folders on a complete uninstall. This is on Windows 8 x64 Professional

A repeated encryption does not work properly. Steps to reproduction:

1st Encrypt a file (check "Also encrypt the file name" checkbox),

2nd Decrypt the file (in the same session of the tool) - the file name on the list is not displayed correctly, but it is only a graphical issue - the file name is decrypt in fact.

3rd Encrypt the same file again (in the same session) - the error: "Failed to access to the file".

In the same session of the tool:

4th Encrypt another file. The previous decrypted file disappeared from the list...

I report this for a third time - no response. I'm tired of this. Is it something not understandable?

Confirmed for W7-x64-SP1, the list flickers heavily while building the contents for a few hundred lines.

Software uninstaller

PowerTools exit spontaneously. See this post, this post and a zipped jv16PT_debuglog_RC1_uninstaller.html.

Description:

1st I run the Sofware uninstaller (default settings),


2nd I uninstall one or two items...,
3rd "System:" name of the software "has been uninstalled!"
4th "Error: Selection of at least one item from the list." (I do nothing),

5th The program ends spontaneously.

2nd Check "Run Decrap in fully automatic mode"
3rd Check "Reboot the computer when done" or "Shutdown the computer when done"
4th Click "Next"
5th Click "No"
6th Click "Back"
7th The unwanted reboot or shutdown
