suspicious of : software deep trace reference

just checking out 2012 and found a new (for me anyway) selection- software deep trace reference.

my first time using it- it found over 1,000 enteries. everything else was minimal - maybe 20 total enteries.

i will not be using "software deep trace reference".

does anyone have any comments? have they used it and what kind of results was achieved?

Software deep trace is a (new) function searching for leftover key's from previously deleted/uninstalled/reinstalled software.

During the 6-7 month period of jv16PT 2012 beta testing (up till beta version 2.1.0.1172) I used it many times, so far without problems, to fix/delete the found Software Leftover keys.

One remark: You probably will find a number of key's that jv16PT cannot fix/remove because jv16PT cannot get the required key permission/ownership.

I was able to manually change the permissions for most of these 'failed' keys but not for about 10 keys.

Make sure you run jv16PT Registry Cleaning with the 'Normal cleaning policy' and always take a backup!!

Would you mind sending over the list of found items for us to take a quick look? Simply run the Registry Cleaner and use the File > Save List As to save the results to a file, then zip it and send it here.

I have 4 software deep trace items that cannot seem to be deleted/fixed, and I can find hardly any information about what the program is (searching online), nor can I find anything related to it in the Software Uninstaller tool.

It must have been installed along with some other program because I've never heard of it.

Does anyone have any info?

I have the same items on my 32-bit Windows 7 system. They can't be removed or modified because the only "user" with Full Control is "TrustedInstaller."

I suspect JV16PT 2012 lists them because sharemediacpl.cpl does not exist (refer to the backup code below).

One could try to manually change the permissions using RegEdit. I just put a text string in the Ignore words tab; the string is B977CB2D-EC6E-4A8F-BFFE-D18682BB0D52.

I have four similar entries. They seem to be related to a software package I installed from Samsung, that configures my PC as a server for access by my home entertainment devices. I could get aggressive and remove them, but I'm unsure of the consequences. I'd like some expert to tell me how important these are.

I have and the same thing happening here, and the number of items on the list seem to be growing...

Could this have anything to do with often installing (and using) updates of 'Shark007 Win7codecs', as he regularly posts these?

Hi: Haven't been here for awhile just because my Registered Tools 2012 is working great!

With the 'deep trace' keys, I have (6) that I would like to delete but am unsure on how to custom delete as they do not delete/Fix with normal choices.

I do not think there is anything new to mention. All possible user options/actions are already mentioned in this "Suspicious of: Software deep trace reference" forum thread.

Just waiting for the development view on this issue.

As others I have the locked entries’ and see the tradition of total silence from the developers for weeks is still in place! I have become used to this but it must be off putting for any one new to this forum and used to those whose products a forum supports monitoring and responding to posts.
