Here is the Release Candidate 1 version of jv16 PowerTools 2012:

Please read the following before downloading

Remember that this is release candidate level software. This means that this version has been made available only for testing purposes. This version may still contain bugs and can potentially damage your computer and mind.

It's not recommended to use or install this software to a production use computer. Running the software only on a test setup or a virtual machine is highly recommended as running this RC level software can be dangerous.

As always, we will give out free licenses to the best beta testers. If a beta tester already owns a license we can also issue VIP and Platinum VIP packages for free, or other such prizes.

However, you are not entitled for any kind of free license by simply downloading these beta versions. Free licenses are given out only to beta testers who give us valuable feedback, such as bug reports or improvement ideas. We will publish the list of users who won a free license after the final version of the product has been released, not before. All free licenses are decided on case-by-case, sometimes it takes just one message with two lines to earn a license (e.g. if you found a really good bug that no one else reported), sometimes it takes much more.

How to send your feedback

* Please use the Post Reply button of this thread for all feedback.

* If you are reporting a bug, please give as much information as possible in regards what steps are required to reproduce the problem. Also let us know what version of Windows you are using. There is no need to post the hardware configuration of your computer, unless asked.

* If you wish to report that you have tested all the features of the program, please include to your post the Debug Report as generated by the Program Debug Tool (under the Debug menu of the Main Window).

* You can send attachments, including screenshots, to the thread from the Post Reply > Upload attachment tab (below the main text area).

* If you are reporting a bug that is not obvious, please include the Debug Log to your report. Note: the Debug Log contains information about your computer, if you do not wish other users to see all this information, you can use the Private Messages feature to send the Debug Log to us.

* If you are reporting a False Positive by the Registry Cleaner (or by "Clean and fix my computer" tool), there is no need to send a Debug Log, this version does not have debug log enabled for the Registry Cleaner to show its true performance. To report a False Positive, simply send a Screenshot of the False Positive, and say what settings of the Registry Cleaner you are using.

* You can also send you general feedback, how you feel the program works for you or if there is something you don't understand, or if some feature doesn't work the way you expected. Feedback like this is sometimes even more valuable than bug reports.

How to create a Debug Log

* If the problem doesn't cause PowerTools to crash: Go to the Main Window, open Debug menu and select "Save Debug Log". The Debug Log is saved to your Desktop.

* If the problem causes PowerTools to crash: Go to the installation directory of the program (c:\program files\jv16 PowerTools 2012 BetaX\ by default) and create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat" there. Then start the program and re-create the problem. The Debug Log is being automatically saved to your desktop as you use the program.

* You can now start to translate the program to your language. This version comes with our brand new Translation Helper app, it's under the \Languages directory. It can be used to update old translations to up to date. The app tells you exactly what parts of the translation file needs to be updated. Also, all the old translation files are included inside \Languages\old_translations.zip

What's New (compared to PowerTools 2011)

1. New tool: Immunize My Computer. This feature allows you to update your system's hosts file with a single click. The hosts file is used to blacklist known malware spreading websites, the list of bad websites is updated by http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

2. Easier access to Mass file rename, merge files, split files, remove files on reboot, find and replace data inside files and wipe files features from the main program window.

3. New powerful scanning features added to the Clean and Fix My Computer.

4. Greatly improved performance of the Software Uninstaller, both in its ability to find and list software leftover, and to uninstall the data.

5. Improved performance of the Disk Wiper.

6. Improved accuracy of the registry cleaner engine.

7. Fully supports Windows 8.

8. Updates to translation files are now downloaded automatically from our server, no need to download the entire program again only to get a new version of a translation.

9. Settings tool now allows user to easily create shortcuts to jv16 PowerTools to the Windows desktop and start menu.

10. Major improvements to the graphical user interface.

11. Major performance improvements to the entire product.

This is on Windows 7 SP1 x64 and x86 Professional with jv16 RC1.

Clean and Fix My Computer does not the History data to clean. History Cleaner finds several items to be cleaned; however, CFMC finds nothing. Registry Cleaner setting is at Most Aggressive. Same results at Default setting.

This applies to all Windows versions and version 10 and 11 of Adobe Flash Player.

The History Cleaner finds Macromedia entries for Flash Player as items to be cleaned. One of the files is Adobe's Flash Player "settings.sol" file. This is the user settings for Flash Player. On installation, it is set to "insecure" default settings. Via the Flash Player applet in the Control Panel, the user can tighten security on Flash Player and these settings are stored in file "settings.sol". Jv16 History Cleaner should NOT remove this file.

Technically Macromedia Flash Player no longer exists. It is now Adobe Flash Player. :

In setting up the Global Ignore List, I inadvertently specified my desired entries as G\, H\, I\, etc., instead of G:\, H:\, I:\, etc. (left off the colon.). This bad info was accepted by the Settings and added to the Global Ignore List. HOWEVER, this caused the several of the elements of jv16 to totally fail. Registry cleaner found nothing, CFMC found nothing, the Startup Manager did not find all RUN entries, the Unit Test Tool collapsed and aborted, and Syscache.dat was only 8 kbytes in size instead of 243 kbytes.

This is why some of my previous posts in this thread has been voided. Once I found this input bug, posted failures no longer occurred.

jv16 needs to check the validity of a global ignore entry. Or better yet, properly parse various entry styles such as:

AGHIJKLMNO or A,G,H, or A\, G\, H\
