With a little more research, I found that some of the "junk" keys identified by PT do not even show up in regedit, and those that do won't let me change permissions. Most (192 of them) have to do with useless file extensions.
E.g., PT shows HKCR\.jnt\
but in regedit, when I try to change permissions and delete, I can't; Windows gives me the message, "error while deleting key."
On others, when I try to change permissions, I get "access is denied."
E.g., PT shows HKLM\Wow6432Node\classes\NbTextlayout.NbTextLayoutPage.1\
but in regedit, that key does not even exist.
(I have a folder called Classes under Wow6432Node, but it's upper case, and there's nothing like NbTexLayout inside it.)
Is there *anything* short of a complete Windows reinstall I can do to clean this up?
